Got it torn down for the most part other than the bottom end. ordered this second over top end. plastics are cleaning up nice. need to find some rings to match. seller says he has a second over piston. This is all a learning experience for me and its a blast. I feel confident that there'll be plenty of advice around here. So. second over means .20 over? Thought about a blaster top end but couldnt get any sure confirmation that it would work without major mods. I would like to get it as hopped up as possible. So i would like anyones suggestions. Again heres what i started with.

This is only after 60 grit. I was a bit leary of hitting it with bleach so i got aggressive with it. FOr the rest i did do bleach so i am starting with 150 and progressing to 220, 600, and 1500. The 60 was a bit much and took extra elbow grease to get the grooves out. There was so much "erosion" into the plastic that i left the STP decal on due to the fact that there is probably a significantly raised glossy spot under it.

Also ordered a good many OEM replacement screws, washers, bolts etc. and a set of OEM grips. Oh, and whats the trick to getting that front axle out. ?

im pretty sure with that bike that all you have to do to get the front axle off is put a wrench on the right side (facing the bike) and turn it, it should screw out

tried that with the axle but it broke loose the abruptly stopped and then would turn about a half a turn back and forth abruptly stopping at exactly the same points in both directions. i dont mean it gets tight. i mean it stops!.......

OK, for those interested.............here is what I have been upto. Lots of sanding and wire wheeling. This is my first project and am really enjoying it. I have to ease up on the spending. I can't help but grab stuff when i find it. Got new handle bars, jug, wiseco piston and rings, K&N(which is 2tall to put lid on), OEM grips, possible mod for a tri Z light set up, front axle, hub, bearings and spacers, seat cover seat, Exhaust, and bolts, screws, etc. Grinding rust, and cleaning and sanding plastic. Lots more of it to do also. Fenders are coming out good. For my first time. I experimented with some acrylic clear coat on the orig. light bezzle. lots of aluminum parts that polish up good. I have been learning about the lower end but haven't broke into it yet. I wanna make sure that i don't mess it up anymore than it may already be. So anyway here are some pics. I guess most of the work that i have done is cosmetic but i am new to engine rebuilds so am doing my research first. Soon though. Rear plastics have only been bleached no sanding yet there.

Found it on ebay still in yamaha wrapper. the one pic of it from the back is it just sitting on the seat. The other is actually the cover that came on the seat i bought. Its in pretty good shape as well but not that good.

Are you going to paint the frame and the front fork assembly?

yes. Still have some rust to get off of the frame though. Also gonna paint the footpegs and skid plate. basically all steel. aluminum should clean up nice and shiney.
