View Full Version : plastic paint and gas tank paint

i bought a 250r and the tank has been painted and u spill gas on it and it dont come off, does any one know what kind of paint this is. and what is the best paint fpr plastic were it dont chip. im trying to redo a cr250 and i want good paint ive tried kyrlon fusion paint it chips so easly.

Just a guess, but they sealed the inside of the tank. I'd say they used a
base coat/ clear coat urethane paint. Rattle cans won't hold up.

Krylon doesn't chip easily as long as you do it properly. It's pretty much the only plastic paint unless you do automotive paint with a flex additive.

I just got done painting my plastics with theKrylon Fusion for plastics. It had about 6-8 good solid layers on it, done properly. I let it dry for 3 days *Edited**Edited* even touching it, and turned it over to paint the underside...and what do you know? the paint on the 1st side was chipped on all points tht touched the ground!

And thats from lightly turning it over.

Can you imagine riding it?!?!?!?


Maybe there is a sealer that I can buy to help prevent this.




Or maybe I should just buy some Maier black plastics.....(trying to stay in budget)

Painted plastic is a joke... unless you dont ride..
