Ok now I am getting spark but weak and it doesn't always get spark ?

Also I poured gas in the plug hole and I pull the rope 30 times and it doesn't sound like firing but the motor turns over good and smooth ?

Are the points set right? If they are off a little, it wil show fire but not start up and run.

Haha we didn't use a feeler gauge we just loosened the point locking screw and then folder paper and put it in between the contacts of the points and then tightened the locking screw up TIGHT and we are getting spark but not very strong and it always doesn't spark ?

I have redone all the wiring to the coil etc and still this.

For the love of god use a *Edit* feeler gauge when you adjust points! James, you have to listen to what people tell you to do. Otherwise other helpful people on here that don't know any better will try to help you out and get nowhere with you.
Seriously Mods, why do you allow this to go on? If you don't do anything, this will keep happening. There will always be somebody that tries to help this kid because they don't know any better. It's simple, you can't fix stupid.

Ok I would use a feeler gauge but I cant see the points when I turn the rotor and the feeler gauge is for the maximum point gap I dont want to use a feeler gauge for when the F on the rotor lines up with the crankcase index mark ?

TravEX

When the "T" lines up. You don't have to measure it when it's turning over! You couldn't anyway.

The points gap is the adjustment for the timing on the 70's, if the timing is not right, it will not run.

You don't wanna use a feeler gauge???!!!

Ok What im saying is when I observe through the cutouts in the rotor I turn the rotor counterclockwise then when the (F) mark lines up with the (Index) Mark on the crankcase the points should be at their maximum gap ??? Or what

When the "T" lines up.

james9r9r

No I did not what I need to know is they state in the manual for the atc 70 points must remain between 0.3 to 0.4 mm. They also say the points must just begin to open when the (F) Mark aligns with the crankcase (Index) mark.

So what im wondering is do I gap the points to 0.3 to 0.4 mm right when the (F) mark aligns with the crankcase (Index) mark ?

Or is 0.3 to 0.4 mm the maximum gap ?

james9r9r

Anyone ???

TravEX

As I have told you twice, at the "T" mark, .012-.016". Yes, the manual says all sorts of stuff, even how to make a 'timing light' setup to make sure the timing is right.

I hope you don't have the aggravation I did, hehe, on one of my 70's the holding screw on the points was stripped out, I had to take the magneto and cover off and use an ease-out to get the screw out.

Good luck

So I should gap them to 0.3 to 0.4 when the T mark aligns with the crankcase index mark or when the F mark aligns with the crankcase index mark ?

So..... Your actually reading the manual (I'm amazed to say the least) and it doesn't tell you specifically how to time the points?? Sounds crazy to me kid.

Maybe you should try both ways knucklesquash, can't hurt.

Maybe this is Gods way of telling you that ATC's don't like you......

Cut the BS James, you just want to ride it regardless of how you get it running. I know how kids are, they'll ride it even if it's getting ruined in the process.

Such as my neighbor that rides around his quad with a hole in the gearbox, he fills it up with oil before each ride and couldn't care less if mud/dirt gets in there.

Unfortunately thats why everything I buy from young kids is completely ruined.

I do hope you get it going though bud, shame you can't seem to get anything running - It's fate I tell ya :beer

Listen I haven't been riding this at all until I get it correctly timed

This is getting annoying, why ask for help if you trash the bike any way? Is this a violation to the forums in any way? Pointless post, not listening when asking for help, and to top it off just plain being stupid. There should be catagory for james on this forums for all his pointless posts.

You have 20-30 posts in which every one you ask for help, that is not a problem. The problem is that they tell you what to do and you do what you think is good but then why ask? Then you ask the same question over and over agian, and you end up trashing the trimoto by trashing the cylinder, everybody told you not to ride it and fix the top end, and you said that it was fine. It ran but no power, next thing you know IT IS SIEZED. You then got mad becuase you broke your opwn bike, and then to make your self look cool on here you decide to tell every body that you put your bike in your front yard with a free sign on it. What are trying to gain? The retard of the year award? I am sorry for being, But if god gave you a brain you would take it out and play with it.
