Ok the broken down trikes that I mentioned in a different post were a 175 and a 185s. He wants to keep the honda but the yammy is mine for free. really bad shape but plastics dont look broke. just curious. what parts are interchangeable not only between years, but sizes as well. 125, as well as the larger ones. carbs, etc. also, is there any way to make a pull start bike like that electric start or even kick start???????????

Def. don't bring it to the dump! it looks like it needs allot of work, if your not up to it, part it and make some cash. The plastic can be restored, theres a tutorial here on the site homepage. And you never know, maybe if you clean it up it will run.

Amazing how the emblems look minty while the plastics look mildewy! I forgot if you mentioned if the motor was free-Was it locked up? I also like the tractor tires:lol: Any of 'em hold air? Looks like a good project, keep us posted.

Most of the lower end parts from the yt125 are interchangable. Of course the top ends can swap back and forth, but why would you want to go to a smaller engine. The frames are the same as all the parts on the frame. You can swap the yt175 forks and yt125 forks. I can't remember if you have to switch the connecting rods if you switch top ends though. If you wanted kick start, you would have to find a dt175 dirt bike engine, it would also give you a clutch instead of the auto shift. I never researched any yamaha bike engine with electric start to see if they would fit. You can still get quite a few parts from the dealer for them. Also on occasion, you can find aftermarket parts new and used. There was also a bolt on suspension kit for the rears to make them a monoshock set up. A board member on here had one for sale a while back. You can fix the 175s up really nice with a nice piston and port job, better reeds and a slightly larger carb. Changing the exhaust and a better geared rear sprocket helps alot also. The yt125 and yt175 are basically the kind of trike that you either love them or hate them. They were sort of odd looking compared to the hondas, but have a very sturdy frame and were yamahas first trike. They are quite fun and are little wheelie machines. If you like 2 strokes, you should fix the trike up. It looks like it will be a labor of love and probably cost you some money, but the trike appears all there, but it's going to take a complete engine teardown. Get yourself a manual, and a good inch pound and foot pound torque wrenches and have fun.

what type of sprocket would be best and could I use a carb off of a larger model or is there another aftermarket one for the 175?

When i was cleaning my carb i called dealer after dealer looking for a carb rebuild kit, nobody had them. Your best bet for one would be online, I cant remember for sure but i believe the carb is a 33mm. Just search ebay for 33mm mikuni carb.

Polishing wheel, electric drill, chlorox bleach. Will strip up alot of that mildew. As a couple guys have said, you will need to disassemble the engine to get all of the crap out of it and you'll need to clean it, lots of elbow grease wire brush, etc.

Would like to have a Tri Z front hub and wheel to have the narrow tire and disc brake. Will one fit on the tri moto 175 fork? or a honda one for that matter...................

I dont think the blaster bottom end will bolt in, but I had a buddy tell me he used the blaster jug and head on his 175 back in the day.
