Well I bought a Tri Z a few weeks back and decided to tear it down and go through the entire trike. Its amazing what you find that other people did to these things. The Fedex guy is on a first name basis with me now bcs everyday he is dropping of new parts. The Z will be fitted with a Honda 450r swinger. I have a good friend that is going to help along with these mods. I will post up pics as I go along like I did last winter with my X. I am not a Yamaha man so I will be looking for help every once in a while. I will get more pics tonight I have gotten alot more done since these were taken.

NO NO that what your trick you told me about, the oven cleaner. haha I will get the pic of the motor tonight all painted with the stainless bolt kit in it. Now how many of those things you need around. What does a complete motor rebuild cost to do to this thing.

Here are a few pics that I took last night. The forks got a complete rebuild from top to bottom. the radiator have to many hours in them to get them to look like they do. And I put a couple pics of the first moc up of the 450r swinger in the Z frame. There is still alot of cutting and welding before the final fit. The motor looks dirty in pic but its just dusty. Freshly stripped and painted with stainless bolt kit.

well its going under the knife in the next couple of days. Have to cut off all the mounts and fab up some new ones in different places. The plasma cutter should do a nice job. We get that set then we can start to make the bushings. Any opinions on the rear fenders. Should I use stock or fab up from another Yamaha machine. opinions and suggestion really needed on this

Ok getting screwed on the 450r swinger project. Finaly got the rear shock in and it looks like there is no way to clear the gas tank. I have seen people use top mount tanks but this is going to be a rider and I will need all the tank space I can get. I am not giving up yet but its not looking to good. I will be shopping for aftermarket swinger if anyone on the boards has one.

Well since I cant put the swinger in that I wanted to I decided to paint lastnight. I had a friend come over and spray it for me. Here are a couple action shots and a finsihed product pic. I will let it bake in garage for a few days and then start to put together.

Next time tell him to wear a hog nose( respirator) when spraying.

How does the paint hold up when you don't PC it? Last time I did that, the second I put the engine in, half of it scraped off. Then again, I didn't use near enough clear coat.

I was the one taking the pics with a mask on. I told him a dozen times to put a mask on. Not my lungs. The paint holds up nice I did the same thing on my 350x and its holding up sweet. Powder coat chips off like paint does and its harder to strip if you want to change the color. I decided to tear the motor down and give that a total rebuild, So much for the pretty motor pics above. Cases and jugs are going to get beed blasted and I may polish jug I have not decided yet(alot of time).

That's good to know, Johnny. I'm really interested in seeing pics of your engine strip down. I need to do the exact same thing on my Tecate. Not sure the process of the stripping and painting of that though, so perhaps I can learn a thing or two from you.

I wont go pc on my trike unless its going to be a queen. As far as scratching when I put the motor in I will wrap the frame in rags and tape to make sure it doesnt scratch. Iam looking for an aftermarket swinger but not having any luck. hint hint hint Raffa, you got one barried out in that shed of yours. The motor will be torn down in the next few nights. ATCT if you are looking just to clean up and paint. A old wise man once told me about oven clean. I used heavy duty oven clean and let it sit over night, washed it down with degreaser and the hose let it dry and away I went with the paint. Let me know how it works. The old wise man is here on the boards and loves those dahm Yamaha's YAMAHONDAMAN

I started to assemble it lastnight. I got the motor in and rads. The tripples are on but the headlight and guard need some work *Edited**Edited* final assembly. I put some pics of the fuel pump on there because I polished it, its hard to see. Swingarm at blasters and the forks will go on tonight.

I will have to check his stuff out. I would like a little more bling. This trike is going to be for sale at TF. It will only be ridden in driveway to make sure everything works and then on trailer for TF. I hope to sell it there.

Your the same as me.. I just like picking them up cheap and fixin them up. I rarely keep something very long. I think this 350x I picked up recently is gonna stick around a while tho. :w00t: If your daring sell lots of tickets and raffle it off. you may not get back what you put in it otherwise.

reading through this thread is givin me the itch. :beer

That is funny that you say that because I thought about raffling it off. But the one thing that is bad about that is if you only sell 500 bucks worth of tickets iam stuck selling it. I will have to see how much money I have into it. If I dont get the money I need I will push it to the back of the garage and forget about it.

Make a link in your sig and start selling tickets soon. I'd buy a 20 dollar ticket for a chance to win that. Ya gotta advertise!

maybe you should get it running first! lol

O now chris it will run just fine when finished. I guess when its done I will start a pole on weather to raffle or sell at TF08. I think I will go with some of that bling on this build. Bling always catches the buyers eye.

01-31-2008, 12:20 PM
LOL...

Seriously tho.. I know our local gun club sells raffle tickets to raffle off some rifles around hunting season and they sell for $20 a shot. I dont think any of these guys would mind dropping a twenty for a chance to win this.

I had about 3 grand into my Z build and I woulda been lucky to get half that if it was in one piece when I offered it up for sale. It's just one of those things ya know.

well good luck to you on whatever you decide to do. It's coming along very nicley.

Those polished shifters, motor mounts, boost bottles and case savers shawn offers are really nice. Well worth the money for hand made parts. Maybe he'll cut ya a package deal. tell him I sent ya!

Well I was going to just go with a top end rebuild but since I am going to be selling this to a board member hopefully, the motor is going to be coming back out tonight and its going to have the cases torn apart and everything new for the Z. I dont want to sell it and have it die and someone. So pony up if anyone is looking for a Z because this one is going to be new from one end to the other.

I thought I would let everyone know that I got rid of the Z project. I was rolling with the motor in it when it left. I traded it for a 85 250r. Being a Honda man I didnt mind trading even though I got the shorter end of the stick. The R got stripped just like the Z did and I painted the frame lastnight.

haha I think I will stick with the 250R motor thats in it. Yes the Z looked killer and it was hard to part with but I am a honda guy at heart and the 350X was pissed the entire time that Yami sat next to it
