I had my 81R motor set up in the living room floor last night on carboard ofcourse in bits and pieces. I had my laptop hooked up to my wall mounted tv with the manual on the screen so I could see where everything goes and I was drinking Coors light. I was having a good night until I tried getting the kickstarter shaft in and get the two cases back together. The spring keep popping off on me. I got pissed off and put it away for the night. Any suggestions? I have the two cases about 3/4 of an inch apart right now. I am guessing I have to give them a few taps to get them to come together. But that darn clutch spring. Any ideas?

that is on the shaft and shoud not hold you back ..check and see if its installed right.. that spring needs to be hooked into that retainer...

sometimes a tap is needed as one or more shafts may bind..trying to align through the holes...but that spring needs to be cliped just right! it will hold the cases out ..like as you speak..

I hook it onto the piece of tube that sticks out there by two bolts and install the shaft in. But when I put on the gasket and try to get the two sides of the crankcase together the shaft pops out and that spring comes off the retainer again. From the manual pictures I seem to be doing it right but I lost patience with it. Had to have a break from it.
