I was out for a ride tonite by myself on my Father's 84 250r. Had a blast for awhile until I was flying down this snow covered field and hit a drift of snow. Bike dug a ditch and chain popped off. Now the bike isnt idling right because of the cold, not jetted for the cold. So I was there in the dark trying to get the chain on and get it unstuck. DOH!!! The cell phone worked as a very bad make shift work light. So I got it fixed and made my way back home and parked it in my Fathers garage. Started to size things up and it seems I cant adjust the chain. Is the chain adjuster assembly available anymore?

the chain adjusts on that year buy lossening up the to allen head bolts on the rear of the swinger and rotating the carrier inside the swinger to adjust the chain.

I couldnt get it to move and the bearings are shot in the carrier aswell. I was wondering if those aftermarket carriers are any good. The chain scratched the paint off the engine and slightly marked the case. I need a case saver for the sprocket badly before I tear up his bike aswell.

lol. ya man those aftermarket bearing carriers are kick ass. get the RAD quad bearing carrier. they might eat a hole in the pocket but will last a good while.

Well just because you can't get it to move doesn't necessarily mean you need a new carrier, it may have rust/dirt build up between carrier and housing and that's why it doesn't move.

If that's the case, clean the housing and carrier up good, grease the mating surfaces and just get new bearings and seals for it.

Gonna haul the axle outta her completely and clean it all up and size up replacing the bearings and seals.
