I'm talkin 84 R here but any high performace trike I am interested in hearing how these kits hold up.

I usually pay a good 50-70 bucks for JUST a good quality 520 X or O ring chain so these kits seem like a great deal, IF they hold up well ????

If you bought something simular (link below) please tell me the following and state if you abused your chain or took care of it with proper cleaning and lubing because that will certainly effect the life of the chain and sprockets too.

1) what machine

1.5) riding conditions usually - Dry or Muddy?

2) approx riding time on kit

3) chain adjustment very often ? .......after the 1st & maybe 2nd initial "break in" adjustment(s), on a good quality chain, you should not have to adjust often at all then

4) how the sprockets are holding up

Well the link did not work for me.
But I get those 89.95 racer kits from MAGIC racing in Mich,With the upgraded x ring did chain and steel sprockets.

I have run them on all my machines. My tri-z has been pounded in mud, rocks,mx racing, drag racing etc.
I have only adjusted it 2 times in 2 years.Everything is still like new.I have about 80 hours on that one.
I have run them on My banshee's for years as well, but I only get about 1-2 seasons out of them on a shee.
I put that kit On my Drag Z with a MX non oring chain, the strongest they make. The chain has held up fine,But the steel sprockets are getting wiped out fast. That bike, I just drag with.So I am pretty hard on it.

I believe the JT steel sprockets with the DID x RING chain.

I agree.That is really cheap.
They say X ring. But I wonder if it really is a x ring chain.
I have no experience with the Primary drive stuff at all.
I get the stuff from Magic Racing.Free shipping over 100 bucks, and If you order on Wednesday, you have it Thursday,If you live in Ohio or PA and use a credit card or debit card for immediate payment.I always call my order in,to make sure it is right.
They are just about the cheapest place out there I have found..They are In Michigan,so they ship fast to the east coast.

I've used the primary drive sprockets before, their OK. Their big and freakin heavy is the main thing. Don't think I've ever used one of their chains.

I would think surely it's an X because they sell O-ring kits too, for a bit cheaper.

I know nothing about this company either.

Do you know what brand chain & sprockets you have from Magic ?

Big ? They all have to be the same size, not sure what you mean by that ?

Heavier then other steel sprockets, they are all heavy, maybe you are comparing it to aluminum ones ?

3) kit is aluminum sprockets with a x ring chain.I wann say that was 119.95.But I never buy those.

Thank you very much, I see you did specify in 1st posts, I missed that at 1st.

I'll keep your info in mind, the Primary sure seems like a fantastic deal though and I checked on your Z, they don't sell them for it, only the Yamaha ATV's, that's sort of odd

I don't see ATC kits at Magic, those are "must call" deals ?

I use banshee kits on the TRI-Z.They are direct replacements.
They dont always list stuff for trikes,so you have to research yourself,to find out what fits your R and then tell them you need TRX 250r sprockets or what not.
They will also give you any length chain too,If you have a longer swinger. They may charge you another 6 bucks for that.

i ahve use dthe primary drive on my 350x's 250r and 450r and never had a problem but i also kept up on chain aadjustment and spray the chains down with white lithium grease after every ride. when the chain is warm so it soaks in. and i am kind of knowm for abusign equipment

They are heavy because their steel, and also because they don't have as many cut outs in them as a steel sprocket could have. They just leave a lot of unnecessary material on them IMO. I mean theres nothing really wrong with them, I'm just picky as hell.

Rocky Mountain ATV huh? I used a set on one of my banshees before but didn't use the x ring. All it got rode on was the lakes in winter, seemed to hold up just fine, but I did have to adjust about 3 times. Sold the quad in spring with them on there, so I can't really tell you anything more than that. I guess the chain is questionable, seemed to stretch a little more than I cared for. As far as steel sprockets go, it doesn't matter who makes them as long as their the same steel. The only difference is weight and price. As Billy said, some don't have very many cutouts and that makes them heavier. Are you going to feel a difference because of the added rotating mass that is centralized so close to your axle? NO, unless your a cyborg or something!

Thanks Brapp, good to know, maybe they can sell so cheap because they make 100's and 100's of them ?

Well if that is the 84R one in pic I posted (that's what they show anyway for 84R), your "as many cut outs" theory just doesn't seem to apply because that's about as cut out as one can get?

Maybe depending on the model (what trike you talking Billy?) some are cut out more then others ?

Yea, I'm not real concerned if it's a bit heavier, durability is on the top of my list and the tensile strentgh of chain is ballpark with anything else that is out there, except for EK chains that I usually buy, but those chains are easily 90 + $$ a piece but have the thickest side plates I ever saw and are up in the 9000 area for strength.

Seems like a good deal to me Huffa.. But I guess I did buy a Regina z-Ring last year for my yfz that was $105. I get a pretty good discount at the dealer though, think I paid around $80.
Rocky Mountain probably order TONS of them at a time to be able to sell them that cheap. Looks like a good deal to me, but if you end up buying your sprockets/chain seperate, Ive had good luck with Sunstar.
