still looking at my options with my 1986 Tecate project that is now underway. My first thoughts were just a Kx500 engine but always thought a KFX400 engine would be sweet to but dont know if it will fit. any suggestions? was also looking at kx250f engines too.

My plan for this build is a Massive powerplanet trike with all Upgraded Suspension (off newer bikes) and a super nice trike. So Big HP is a must

use the new kfx450 engine. then we can have a new honda 450r trike and a new kawi 450 trike

Exactly, nobody yet has done a kawi 450 somebody needs too! Might put a hurting on the kx500 conversions hehe

I agree 100%. We've seen a really nice Tri-Z/ YZ450 conversion, and a really nice 250R/450R conversion. We need a T-3/KFX400 or 450 conversion. Anything can fit if you try...lol. :beer :w00t:

I'm a big fan of the idea, but I wouldn't use a KFX400 engine because it's really a Suzuki. It won't be cheap, but use a KX450F engine to keep it all Kawasaki. I've thought about this, but I'm willing to wait until the 450s get a little cheaper.

I would avoid the ltz400 engine... unless you are wanting to re-invent the 350X... IMO a KX450f engine is worth waiting for if you insist on using a 4-stroke.

good info, I am thinking of a kfx450 then, I had thought about it before but didnt know much about it and a KFX400 would be cheaper to put in. But no problem, sounds like I am putting a KFX450 with Dual exhaust, Bigger cams, Ported & Polished with Big carb. I am heading off to the bike shop to go measure the motor and mounts and see how do able it can be going into my tecate frame.

any other suggestions on this project this is what I have so far

KFX450 engine
Dual Exhaust
05 KX250 forks
5 extended swingarm

Thanks

Yes, mine would be to keep that 450 engine stock. You want to keep it as reliable as you can. And all of the new 450's make plenty of power. Especially in a lighter 3wheeler chassis. Cams, compression, and bigger carbs will just add expense and headaches to the build. Focus on getting it all together correctly FIRST. Then if you must have more, then dig in. I rode Jason Halls 350x-450R conversion this summer in the dunes. Trust me, for an all around rider, and racer, a stock powerplant is all you will need.

Unless you're going to strictly drag race it or run it in the dunes, I wouldn't go with a 5+ swinger.
