Is it posible to put a honda 185 into a honda 70? What kind of modification would need to be done to the engine as it would have to lay down.
You could probably do a 125m into a 70 alot cleaner and easier.

but motor wise does anything have to be changed? Motor laying sideways is that bad on engine?

you might have problems with lubrication of the motor, you would need to come up with an intake setup, plus when you go to start it you would have to pull foward:lol:. It would be WAY easier and smarter to just use a 125 motor.

There is a member of this board who converts 200x engines into laydown engines and installs them into atc70s, so yes it is possible. Your best bet would either to build and atc110 engine with a bore and stroke kit or buy one of the lifan engines which are a bolt in. The atc110 engine requires you to redrill a bolt hole and fabricate the front engine mount but is alot easier than machining the cases and doing all the mods for a 185s or 200x engine. The lifan engines are up around 150cc now for the laydown version and everything will be brand new. You have your choice of auto shift or manual shift like on a dirtbike and you can also have your choice of electric or kick start. Some people are converting the kick start engines into pull start engines which isn't a whole lot of work. People mount the battery for the electric start engines under the seat and on top of the lower skid plate by welding together a steel battery box. If you do a "search" on this website you will find more information on the conversions. Also there is another website that has a large atc 70 following where alot of the atc70s are converted to larger lifan engines. There is also an 88cc big bore kit and there was at one time a 110cc conversion kit for the atc70 engines. If you are converting a stock atc70 to a big bore you might want to look into the larger volume oil pump. Also some people have said the 110cc atc70 kit is a high compression kit and kind of tough on the pull starter. I guess the biggest limiting factor for whatever you are doing is your wallet and your modification skill level. If you know someone that welds and has access to a decent machine shop, then you shouldn't have any problems. Also some rewiring to do with the lifan engines but plenty of people have posted wiring diagrams on how to rewire the electric start or kick start engines pretty easily. Also enough of the transplant engines have been done that people know what works and what doesn't so you just have to follow their advice and open up the wallet. Whichever way you decide have fun.
