Ive been thinking about making some homemade wheels spacers, and I saw this setup somewhere on here a while ago:

How would this work for trail riding? And since the bolts wouldnt have the small splines like the oem studs do wouldnt they be loose and potentially break?? I cant remember who did this but im almost positive someone had this on a 250r.

i have a set up like that on my blaster (kid before me made it up) and i beat the hell out of it and its fine...but he drilled the hub and used half inch bolts

I made something similar. I used the stock mounting and counterbored the lug nut holes deep. Then 45 degrees away from the stock mounting I made 4 new holes and put in studs. The aluminum was 3" thick. The way I made them, there were no long bolts to come loose or shear. The may work just fine the way some guys make them but I don't like the idea of a 4" bolt supporting everything. If it were dowel pinned, that would be another story.

Ive got some on a 500 scrambler, only they are made of pipe with a square tube in the middle. Also the bolts go into a hex so they can't turn.

Here is a pic where you can see one of them.
Never mind the tires, they where only on there for the pic.

I had to read that a couple times to under stand, but you basically machined it just like the aftermarket spacers with 8 holes. That would be great if I could do it but I dont have any machines to make parts like you do. I know a 4'' bolt would be bad news but I was only thinking about making 1/5'' spacers so It really wouldnt be too long.

i didnt like the idea of a long bolt either (2" spacers) but i jump the thing like its going out of style i hit a tree and broak the a arm and tie rod and nothing happend to the spacers

just food for thought

1/2'' bolts are huge! i dont plan on drilling out my brand new wheels or hubs but just use smaller bolts probably? Im going to pick up some cheap aluminum blocks to see what I can come up with.

the metal peices were cut and drillled at a machine shop, I set them in and welded them up and walla work great! saved me some duccets to!

Yeah thoes were the ones! Do the fit snug into the hub? I just put a bolt and nut through the hub and tightened it and it seemed very secure. Im going to pick up some square tubing and grade 8 bolts and see if I can make something work. If it holds up ill get some machined aluminum blocks to place in there. Now I just need to decide weather to use 1.5 or 2'' blocks?

I only used 1x1 steel box, as I wanted to weld them on, im not a big fan of spacers, but I can live with this plus there welded to the hub, I honestly wouldnt go any further than 1 and add some offset rims you can have quite a bit of width added.

Smallest square tubing I could find was 1 1/4 x 1 1/4. I just mounted everything up after I cut 8 blocks and it seems very secure. I dont think it should break just trail riding but jumping would probably break it after a while. Ill probably move up to solid blocks after I see how I like this.
