I got a recoil starter for a honda 185/200. Got the guts replaced and the orignal spring is still good. Replaced all the parts and now the recoil don't work? I have to have done something wrong. It pulls out but stays out?? I read somwhere to do the intial 2 turns? Any one have any "How To's" or tips for reinstalling a recoil spring?

There is a notch in the pulley. Pull the rope up through that notch...don't pull the rope out of the handle. Turn the pulley with the rope in the same direction as when you pull the handle. Then just pull the rope with the handle and let it go back in. That should do it.

that happened to me on my 1983 atc200, i replaced the recoil starter with a aftermarket one, and would pull it to start it and it would just stay out. once i got it running with the recoil starter i would rev the engine, or give small pulls on the handle of the starter to get it to go back in.
