Spring broke in kick start in 200X HELP BIG PRICE TO FIX!@ [Archive]

Hey gang... I have a question.
I am in Canada for one thing so price of parts might be higher or something?
But I mean my kick starter in my 200X would not come back up after kicking it to start.. so I figured it was a spring.. I take it into the shop first they say its just a spring and it would be $100.00 to fix.. then I get a call a day later.. stating their going to have to totally take aprtr the block to get the kciker shaft out to replace the spring and its $400.00 bucks..

IS IT WORTH IT??? Is that a little much??? do you have to totally tare down the engine block for that?

You have to take the sidecover off, at the very least. 400 bucks is hugely steep though. What year 200X is it, I could probably sell you my 87X engine for 100 bucks.

I'd take RedRider's deal, I'm in the same position. I've got one just like yours. Put my engine on the shelf and took and swapped in an 185s engine in the 200x roller.

Yes, the center case must be split to access that spring. I think it is a HORRIBLE design but it is what it is...

I'd buy a manual, read up and do it yourself. It is an easy 4 hour job with cleaning and gasket scraping etc so I understand the 400$ price. I don't like it, but I understand it.

Fix it yourself.................

yeh..you sure do have to split it. I bought a 200x in the states 2 weeks ago and thought it was just a simple fix but you do have to split the crank case to fix this. Just find someone in your area who works on atvs for a hobby and doesnt charge dealership rates.

most people that do that already have too much to work on!!

Get it back and fix it yourself....
