Pics to come, but I just did some wheelin' and dealin', and ended up with a '85 (I think, lol) Kawasaki Tecate trike.

I picked it up from Will (Lomax on the boards). He's had it a while and never did anything with it. I basically traded a Yamaha Bear Tracker I got for free, and an '85 250es (which I will miss) for the Tecate.

When I picked it up, it wasn't running, and the floats were stuck and fuel was pouring out of the carb. I took it apart, cleaned everything up, replaced the spark plug, and more or less, it fired on the first kick.

Let it warm up and rolled around the yard in 1'st gear, it's dark, so I only tagged the throttle a couple of times. There's definately power waiting.

I'm gonna take it out on some back roads and open her up in the mornin'.

Sweet! Yes pics, we like pics! Bringin' back another Tecate is great news. I'm currently gathering parts for an upcoming 85 T3 build sometime next summer. Can't wait to have a pair!!!!!!!!!

I've seen the trike and it definately has potential, nice score. I didn't think Will would part with his Tecate. He was telling me last weekend that it was basically fine except it needed a carb and that's no big deal. Well looks like when we get together to ride we can ride side-by-side Tecates. Bet that's never been done round these parts. Chris

Them tecates are known for that, most people just buy/make covers for them and slap em on there and she looks good as new!

What is that hole in the fender ????
is for the kick start i guess, but that is not original, or it is?

That's what I was wondering too, wtf is with the slotted fender. I thought maybe it's for the exhaust but it exits to the other side?! :wondering

The 84 & 85 tecates have a rear motion kick start like a dirt bike. The original fenders have more of a funnel in them as opposed to that giant cut away. I'm really not sure of anyone who makes aftermarket fenders for the Tecate other than Maier.

Yeah, when you kick start it your foot goes right through that cutaway. And the front and rear plastics are Maier replacements.

Anyway, man, pretty nice score, I think.

I've been doing some research for mine--not sure if I'm gonna turn it into an '85 or keep it an '84, and I haven't seen any stickers for the '85 tank. As you can see, that tank is from an '84. Hopefully you'll have some luck buffing it out a bit. It's a shame those green tanks just weren't made that great.

What makes you say the tank is off an '84? What's the difference? I'm not 110% sure the bike is an '85, just going by what Will said. Never checked the VIN.

What year models had the shrouds that went between the tank and forks?

I think '86-87 Had the rad's mounted on the side with the shrouds.

84 has a front drum brake, 85 a disk. Wheel bolt pattern on an 84 is 4/4, 85 - 4/156. I think everything else is the same.
