Hey guys. Im new to the site and i love it!! I just recently picked up this 1985 200x from a friend for $130:w00t: . Mostly all oem but has Mosse hanlde bars and cobra exhaust. The motor is bored 1.50 over with high comp piston and it is fried. I have another 200x parts bike so i droped that motor in it and it threw a rod:cry: . So now i have to do a rebuild. Cant wait to get it done. Also do any of you 200x guys have a problem with the frame snapping above the front motor mounts? My parts bike has been broke and welded in the same spot as this one.

good luck with the 200x bro. i had 1 and went through 2 diffrent motors befor i said hell with it and starting to build a 250r. IMO the 200x is always tearing up. good deal tho. i have a crap ton of parts if u need anything. some aftermarket and some OEM.

Excellent deal!!

Like Storm said, I have a buddy with an 85 he's about 2200$ into it by now...... The darn thing just keeps breaking, everytime we ride something else breaks or leaks - what a pain.... I built his motor up nice with a piston, cam and tensioners (finally quieted that ticking down!) but my 86 200X still smokes him LOL!!

I think some of them are indestructable and others are lemons!!

Anyhoot, not trying to take away from your fun. Great score and I hope you enjoy it!!!!!!

Good deal I always loved the 200X. I am planning on rebuilding mine someday. The frames do break there, it is not uncommon.

Well seeing as I paid $625 for one in worse shape than that, with a blown motor, I'd say you got a damn good deal!
And, I agree with DirtCrasher, from what I've read on here, it seems like they either last a lifetime or you can't keep them running.
Hopefully you won't have any more problems after the rebuild.

I never had any problems at all with my engine. only thing I had to do was replace the clutch and put a new gasket in the left side case. Only other problems with my 200x was the swingarm and rear bearings, but that was my fault from neglecting to replace them. But all thoes problems are fixed now and I havent had a problem since. I really think the 86 and 87s were built better than the older 200xs though, my friends always has problems with it. Hes been through 2 engines, 2 frames and had to replace the bearing way too many times to count. All together I only have around 1000 in my 200x, and thats counting the $200.00 I paid for it.

not a bad deal at all. thats a sick 200x for the price homie. a little tlc and she will be a ripper.

ive herd them 200x engines had problems. i have a auto-x that seems to be treating me well. thats always an option too. drop in a 200s engine with a 200x cam and carb. you will be good to go. although the s isnt a manual like the x. just an idea.

Dammit!

I've heard of the frames breaking in that spot but never had it happen to me. I beat the holy hell out of my 200x and jumped it higher than any 200x should ever go but my frame never broke.

You could look into getting a brand new Lifan motor for it. I think they can be bought pretty cheap and apparently they run pretty good.

the 200x kinda reminded me of a mojave. it had torque but no speed, dont get me wrong the X was fun to ride when it would run. for what u paid... u got a deal. if i could find a deal like that id buy it for the hell of it:cool:

200xs arent really that slow :wondering My friends 84 200x beat a 06 300ex every time and his engine is in need of a rebuild and a new clutch badly. He topped it out at 63 with a pipe, filter, and other things I would guess. I would imagine it would be faster if it was rebuilt and had a new clutch. Its the opposite for me though, its all power and not alot of speed.

I've got two 200x trikes and they run strong with basic maintenance. One has had a frame break in the same place. The best fix is to weld it, grind the weld down flat again and then put another piece of chrome moly cut in half over the original break. A half round gusset if you will. That should fix your problem. :D

I sold a spare frame to a guy a couple years ago, the same thing happened to him, It broke in the same place. So chalk me up as one that has seen it happen.
