A few months ago I purchased a 87 200x for $700. It’s in great shape. Motor runs strong no smoke. Plastic is in great shape with some scratches and the tank has a few chips. I went through the whole bike and replaced bearings and such. It got me thinking about selling as parts availability for the 86-87 sucks. So I was wondering if the 200x is a rare find and is it worth $1500ish?

From here that machine is worth $1500 easy. Replace those few decals and repaint the tank and you should make out pretty good around your parts. This bikes are a bit rare and usually do pretty good price wise.

I dont know how rare the 87s are, but (from my own perspective)they seem less common than the 86 350x. I will soon be in the market for an 86 or 87 200x and am planning to go as high as $1000 for a decent one(not looking for mint as I plan to ride it).
Good luck if you sell! :beer

Thanks guys. Where is a good place to get decals? I found 86 decals, but they are not the same as my 87

a few oem parts seem to bring the $ - fenders, seat - which your's is replaced w/ an 86 or recovered, tank shrouds, and the key switch. if you have all these parts in good condition it is worth the most, for every one of these parts that is missing or damaged you lose $.
it looks like you have the oem fenders and shrouds(can't tell about the key), and it looks to be in good condition. replace the stickers and I'd think it'll fetch $1500...replace the seat - I bought a new one last April from the dealer for @ $300 - and you could push $2000.
as far as rare...people argue this all the time. what I've found - on this site - is that the production #'s of the '86 were over 15,000 bikes sold and less than 4000 '87's. each person has to decide for themselves if that is rare.
btw - that's a steal at $700 imo.

Pervious owner state the seat was recovered. The Tank shrouds and Key switch and plastic (few scratches) are in a great shape.

As for the decals all I have found is 86 decals on ebay. Not 87 that i have seen.

Honestly I really want to keep it for a daily rider, but as I have seen parts are hard to come by :(

I would keep it and fix it up real nice and ride it.

They are rare then the 86.I like the 87 better than the 86 but that's just personal preferance.

There is a local shop here that will reproduce atv decals for me. Ask your fire dept. where they get their decal work done at for their trucks. I would think there would be a shop willing to do it nearby.
BTW, good investment. I've been wanting a 200x for a while, and they come fairly cheap here, but money is money unfortunatilly.

Looks pretty nice, alot better than mine did. That would be nice if the 86s had a key like the 87s did though.

In that shape, which looks really nice BTW, how often are you going need any major parts ?

I'd keep it if you can afford to .

why not get aftermarket plastic, so if you crack it, no big deal. Ive got a pair of these. Ive tried selling locally, really no interest around here. but Ive been told I probably asked too much for them. But then again I really didnt want to sell them anyway. jim
