today i was working on lengthening my swinger and my tecate was out in the driveway, and my buddy asked if he could ride it. i said no you will hurt yourself. he proceded not to listen to me. he fired it up went five feet flipped it over then it rolled on top of him still running and drove over his leg ripping off his shoe and proceding to drag him along with it he finnaly got ahold of it and flipped it over grabbed the throttle and it died. this fiasaco ended up bending my pipe denting my silencer, pushed the head pipe into the bung on the radiator breaking it, broke the head light shroud and back plastic, broke the clutch lever. luckally he was fine but the tecate didnt fare so well for only moving about 15 feet at 5 mph. o well what can you do. this sucks!!!!

Hell yeah. You need to MAKE that dude pay! Back in the 80's when I was a teenager my friend wanted to ride my 250r. I told him it was too fast for him but he just HAD to ride, so I let him. The front end came way up and he was hanging on for dear life while his legs were being dragged on the ground (twist throttle). We were all laughing are azzes off at him too. Didn't bang up the trike so he was lucky.

Is your buddy familure at all with motorcycles or quads ?
I think all trikes should come with a thumb throttle limiter screw :D , that way you could have screwed it in all the way and he probably would have never got in that situation.

My old roomate wheelied my '84 into the back of my pickup in second gear with the throttle pinned... He was an inexperienced rider and he couldn't let go of the twist.... He almost hit me and another guy as he smacked right into my parked pickup...the tailgate was down on the pick-up too... The engine over-reved just enough that the front wheel closed the tailgate as he hit the truck.... It pushed my pickup ahead 3 feet and broke the wing off the car parked in front of it.. He is extrememly lucky to not be dead or crippled... He had no safety gear on... not even a helmet... He was knocked out and also dislocated his shoulder due to bouncing off my tailgate... My buddy and I thought that he was obviously dead....But actually the Tecate suffered much worse... When the trike hit my reciever hitch the throttle was still wide open.... It bent all three wheels, one hub, The rear axle was bent on both sides so bad that the carrier touched the ground, the front fender was MIA, the radiator and guard had a square hole punched through them, the handlebars were wrapped around in front of the tripples and the ends nearly touched... all of the controls were broken... And I never even saw a dime....
It sucks when trikes suffer.

We were all at an outdoor party a few months ago. A girl wanted to ride my buddies YZ125. Everyone said "NO!" as we had all been drinking and even a good rider had no buisness being on there at this time. I personally told her 20 times to stay off of it either by herself or with someone else.
One clown decides that he's gonna teach her. She took off and stopped in 1st gear and they both figured that she was good to go. 2 seconds later she takes off holds it wide open and manages to get it into second gear. She drives RIGHT THROUGH THE FIRE, passed everyone diving for there life and she crashes through the wooden fence and ends up in the neighbors POOL!!
Man, we all just looked at each other in shock..... Of course the cops came by and a couple of summons for underage drinking got handed out. Along with a bill for a broken fence, ruined radiator, bent bars, broken clutch lever, smashed pipe, tweaked silencer and broken rear fender.
Her leg got so burned from the pipe we had to take her to the hospital where mom and dad stood in front of us and asked why she was on the dirt bike??
My other story is about a girl I dated....
Tracey wanted to ride my SX, she said "It looks so easy" so I told her when I was done I would give her a lesson. She wouldn't listen and started it about 3 times, each time I shut it off. I told her to WAIT!! She started it again, took off and didn't get 10 feet before she put both feet dow. Both feet got sucked under the rear tires and she stayed on the gas. It was the ugliest 25 feet I ever saw the SX run.... Her feet got sucked under so far that her face smashed into the handlebar crossbar and nearly broke her nose.
Needless to say, Tracey had no desire to ride the SX again.....

Sorry to hear about that man. You should've made it extremely clear that these tecates are ruthless machines with minds of their own, and they only take kindly to their owners :D
Now that I have two trikes, I was contemplating letting friends go riding with me. But after the stories I have read, I'm really second guessing it. Especially since both have too much power for an inexperienced rider. I guess just because I had no trouble with it after not being on one for 20 years doesn't mean other people can ride one with no problems.

Awhile back I had SIX running ATC's. They all had good seats and plastic and some of them had built motors too. I always got the "but you've got a trike he can ride..." and a couple of times I did let some friends ride them but it's never a good deal. If they don't have the money for there own machine then how are they gonna pay yours when they break it? Not to mention that some of our parts CANNOT be replaced!! I have some mint 350X headlights and how am I gonna tell a friend he owes me over 250$ for a headlight? I can't replace them!!
I decided to sell some of them off rather than let them sit and waste away; or let a friend ruin them.

Its too bad that people think since they have riden a 4 wheeler they can automatically drive a 3 wheeler.
I had a friend that wanted to ride my new pedal bike once. After some hesitation, I let him do it, and not 30 seconds later he crashed it. lol
Anyway, I hope things work out for your trike and your friend. I hear the wind of change....:Bounce

the problem with 3 and 4 wheelers is that any idiot can get on it and hold it wide open. and then they think they are god on it........
and who needs brakes? ive been riding my mini bike for years with no brakes, and it is by NO MEANS slow. i never have a problem, i know how long it takes to slow down, not to mention i can make a hairpin turn at 30mph on it.....every one else has a problem riding it though......

lol...he thinks i'm joking. you don't press stupidly hard...just enough to create some friction...it's better brakes than nothing when you're doing a plug chop.

3 stories.
GoKart. rebuilt 6.5 hp tech.
I convinced my mom to give it a try. Simple steering wheel, brake, gas. Putts around laughing and hit the gas and nailed the wooden fence. Then to top it she was freaking out inside the kart yelling "Whats happening!?!". She thought she had her foot on the brake but was on the gas. It was throwing dust, dirt and grass everywhere. Yes it was one of the funniest things I have ever seen :naughty:  . My fault though
ATC 200s. this weekend.
Wife trys to take off and gun it around a short turn. Gets on 2 wheels and does the one leg hop trying to get'er back on 3 and hit the fence. Same place as my mom. She said.. 'Thats why I ride a quad damit!". She proceded to get off.
New ATC 110. This weekend.
Youngest son wants to try out the new toys. Gets on and is doing find putting around the back yard when for no appearent reason he slammed it full throttle and he freaked out and his legs went straight out the sides and hit the fence in the same place as my mom and wife.
New ATC 110. This weekend.
My father in law decided to take my youngest son for a quick ride in the little dirt area near the house. They where going up a small hill and at the top was a little lip and they had it in second and did not have enough juice to make it over the lip. Rolled backward down the hill breaking the plastics in the back and the rare (was prefect) head light. Got a few scratches and father in law got a bloddy thumb nail.
But I do like to share out toys too. (To the right people) I get enjoyment out of seeing them having fun!

I once had a little ATC125 that a friend tried to drive over a pile of snow that was literally about a foot tall. I have no idea how, but the machine ended up rolling over backwards on him, over him, and back onto it's wheels, while he laid there and went "wtf happen?". I just laughed.

I had a guy come over to buy a 185s, he was about 20, I asked him "have you ever rode a trike?" Answer, "YES" I said okay. my burb was about 5 feet in front of the trike, I see him just sit there and turn the handlebar. I yell "STOP!!!" as he hits the throttle. I reached and killed it as he hit squeezed the brakes. He missed the burb by inches, I pretty much told him he's never been on a trike. His answer was he's always rode quads and thought trikes were the same. Jim

This thread should be changed to "People that don't know how to conjugate the verb "To Ride" ! Aarrgg !" Other than that, it's cool to hear about people getting jacked up when they don't listen.
What is funny is how as a triker you develop a very strong sense of keeping your feet on the pegs all the time and how it just feels wrong to put your foot down at all. Pain has a way of teaching us well.

Sorry to hear about your trike. Exact same thing happened to me, except it was with my JUST BOUGHT 1984 Yamaha YZ490. I didn't have a truck to get it home, so my buddy gave me a lift with his truck. When we got back to my house, he begged and begged me to let him ride it. I continued to say no, he persisted. I told him don't floor it, it will spit him off quicker than ever. The dumb ass tries to do a wheelie, I kept saying NO. Sure enough, it spit him off, my bike went flying down the street, crashed, grinding down my footpeg, pipe and silencer, and breaking my side panel. I hadn't even taken a ride on the bike and I was pissed!
He ended up getting "strawberried" up pretty badly, as he had shorts on and t-shirt, and wiped out in front of a bunch of my neighbors sitting on their porches.
To this day I dont' let anyone ride any of my bikes or trikes after this incident.
