Hey guys,

Got some things aka triples, fork tubes, silencer, motor to polish up real soon. The motor is done for me so I was going to hit it with some mothers polish and call it a day.

But I would like some step by steps and what I will need to do a good job on the other parts
I know a few of you have told me, but I forgot already.

So how do you polish stuff on your trike?

All I do is strip the paint (wire wheel mostly) then start sanding with sand fine paper... then its on to the buffing wheel.

Dremel tools work well for the tight spots.

A small bench grinder can be found fairly cheap and will be a good investment for touchup work later down the road.

Mothers I think pretty much just brings back the shine to parts that were already polished. (I usually only ever used that right after washing the trike after a good ride)

I use this stuff with a buffing wheel. Works good!

I think you definitely need a wire wheel and drill. Works great.

You have a small bench grinder with buffer pad on Chris ?

I never understood those compound sticks you buy for wheel, do you dress the pad 1st with them then start buffing ?

I have a grinder and a buffer wheel somewhere, never tried it yet so this amature can use all the advice you or any one else has to offer.

They also sell diffrent shaped buffing heads for the end of a drill. Just put a bit of the rubbing coumpound on the thing and go to town. This of coarse only after spending countless hours sanding. (I think thats the most important part,, takes out all the scratches and flaws wit the sandpaper)

use a die grinder if you don't want to wait on the drill

My question is, after you polished steel, what do you do to keep it from rusting? Hit it with clear coat?

My air die grinder works awesome with the woven pad on it and some WD-40. I have sand discs for it also and work my way from there.....

I am not going to pretend to be a polishing guru but when it comes to hand polishing my friend who works at an autobody supply store turned me onto this (Wizards) and I'll never go back to Mothers ...actually tossed it in the garbage.

Dennis Kirk sells Wizards products. At least, last time I looked into my catalog they did. Look in the street bike / cruiser catalog.
