I got my carb on the cate yesterday and got her fired up. Question though, where should I start with my jeting? Its running a 158 main and thats about all I know. Ihave a pipe, and vforce reeds on t and everything else is stock. So any suggestions where I should start would be awesome. Thanks

I always work from the bottom up.... get the pilot circuit dialed in... then get the needle position set... then bump up main jets till its obviously rich at full throttle.... Then creep down in size until it cleans up... then I start looking at looking at the spark plug after some wide open pulls while creeping back down in size til the plug looks good....

i have read to do the main first, as it effects all the circuits.
O BTW, what range does the pilot jet effect? lows i thought.

I would listen to cr480r and start on the bottom. If your trying to tune your bike that Is way to big on the pilot, It will bogg like crazy until It clears out. The pilot conrtols Idle to about 1/4 throttle. I would start with a 42-45 pilot. Get the bike to Idle decent, warm It up & ride It. I would then set the needle In the center groove. If It's fluttery/dirty when you first throttle In raise the clip one groove at a time. I would start around a 175 main just to be safe. It It chuggles at wide open throttle then start dropping the main one size at a time. You will probly wind up on the top or one groove down on the needle with I would guess a 160-165 main.

Well, I was just trying to get an idea where to start out jetting this baby. I just put a new topend on it, the pipe and reeds and I just didn't want to fire it up and cook it from being to lean. I am going to pick up some jets for it tomorrow and see what I can get done. Never jetted a carb before but It shouldn't be to difficult. Thanks for the info and I'll let y'all know what happens. Gotta get this and my yz426f put together and running by next wednesday. My boss just got a sportsman 800 and wants me to go ride someplace in kentuky next weekend. Couple of allnighters should get er done. Well, back to the shop.:beer
