Howdy

Alright i know Honda uses basically all the same parts in the XR200R series except for the 84 and 85. because of the RFVC motor. soo my question is does the 200x use the same parts? i was told that my big red has a smaller stock bore than the XR200R.

besides some head differences that i have seen in the 86-87 200x. is everything else the same? piston, valves, timing set? do the cylinders match?

the reason i ask all of this is because i am in the middle of rebuilding a XR200R motor. and have found this nice rebuild package on ebay that would give me everything i would need. however the kit is for the 200x. so please share your knowledge.

here is the ebay link. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Honda-Atc-200-200S-200M-Engine-Top-End-Rebuild-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43977QQihZ012QQitem Z220172514014QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

that kit contains a low compression piston, that will lower power and make the machine slower. i would just go and buy only the parts that are really needed for the overhaul instead of the kit. The 86-87 200x is completely different from any 200 honda has made except for the fatcat.

The XR piston is different (lower compression), the 200 series trikes has a smaller bore then the XR (the XR is the second bore size, 65.5mm where the 200 trikes use a 65mm bore).

The non-200 trikes cylinder has shorter fins, still usable but it would look different and might run slightly hotter.

And of course, the RFVC parts don't work, and 86-87 200x parts don't work.

I'd grab myself a 10.5:1 piston set and bore it out. I'd also change the cam chain and tensioner and guide, other than that you'll need a gasket set and check out the head. Maybe your stuff is shot and thats why you liked that kit, I just don't trust those kits but they may be just fine..... Shindy??????

100$ QUALITY 10.5:1 piston
60$ bore
100$ cam chain and tensioners
30$ for the gasket kit

give or take.....
