I found this site a while back and been doing a lot of reading, good info lots of help here.

So, I bought a 200x a few weeks ago:beer in decent shape, but not running. The guy thought the head gasket was blown, I found the intake valve adjusted too tight and holding the valve open. It has good compression, don't have a number (need an adapter for my gauge) but the bottom of my foot is bruised to prove it. I pulled the carb off to clean it, found the float broke, ended up ordering a new 30mm carb for a xr200 of ebay.

Here is where I need a little direction; I got the carb on and it will start and run, but only with the choke full on when it is cold. As soon as the motor warms up it wants to die and will not restart. given the symptoms I believe it is running real lean, and my question is can you increase the slow jet size and the main jet size?

next question: is the main jet used at all during idle? If you say no, even with the needle in position 5 (bottom ring)?

I'll get some pics as soon as I have time.

Well if your 200X is Stock - Go Buy the Same Size Main Jett , Slow Jett for that new Carb as the OLD Carb ...

These 4 strokes are a Biotch To Start if not Dead on Jetting ...

Best thing to do is , Change the Oil 10w-40 4 stroke oil & make sure you have the correct Oil Filter , Buy few Plugs , Clean the Air filter or Better Yet Buy a New Air Filter .

Now when the motors warm re-adjust the Valves to Spec .

Than put in the Correct Main Jett & Slow Jet , Now adjust the Needle Clip Position.

Last thing Adjust the Air / Fuel Screw along with the idle screw !

Should be good after all this is taken care of

I think it's more of a rich condition than a lean condition. I mean, when it's cold it works awesome, meaning it's using more fuel than necessary (i.e. choke) and then when it actually heats up it stops running and wants to die. Is the plug wet at all when you pull it after the engine dies?

I think that is the problem, it was someone elses project. PO stated that it had been bored, but didn't remember how much, also said it had less than 10 hrs on it since rebuild.
I am going to compare the jet sizes between the 2. I would think that the 30mm carb would have larger jets to account for the additional air flow. I guess it might be time to pick up a bit set.
It also has aftermarket exhaust, header and a supertrapp end/muff.

nope, plug is dry as a bone. it doesn't even smell like gas.
