OK, so I've been finding that most places will not work on a bike/trike as old as mine. I'm not sure if this is complete nonsense or they simply don't want to work on a 3-wheeler. Has anyone else had this issue?

I'm capable of doing much of the work myself, but it really isn't an issue of ability for me, it's the time issue. I'm only able to work and/or the trike on the weekends, and I'd really rather be spending my time riding. General maintenance is fine, but anything greater I'd rather take it to someone.

Anyone know of a good mechanic in the Tri-State area who will work on an '83 250R?

The honda dealer near me will do it. I do all my own work on my machine but I was there getting filters and they had a 85 200x that they were doing some head work on. I dont get much there bcs it seems like they want to bend you over the counter and give it to you hard on the prices. Its worth a shot. Hector's sales in Falconer, NY. Iam not sure were you are located but its worth a shot.

I called my local Yamaha shop and I asked could I ask one of your mechanics 1 question over the phone they said it will cost $79.

Also the labor is $79 an hour.

I was going to buy a manual for my YT175 and they said it will cost $79.

I heard they like to *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* you over and make up there prices.

I'm guessing I'm going just have to search around, which might take me out of my area. Johnny, you're a little too far away--I think you're on the other side of the state. Thanks tho...

For you James, that is a bargain. Just pay yourself the $79 cause you're not gonna listen to his advice anyway.

Its common for a service shop, to cap how old of a bike they will work on. As a mechanic i understand, Look at it this way

04 trx450 they want the carb cleaned, and a 85 350x same job.

The trx i get the carb off and clean everything nice and simple easy minimum shop rate for the hour of work.

Now the atc, i pull off the seat, go to take off the gastank, and snap the bolts on that because there old and rusted. So now a basic job becomes something major because of age. Most people wont pay the extra money its going to take to fix stuff like that.

Bingo, I run into the same problem,, even early 90's Junk,, The labor tends to Far outrun the value of the machine in a short period of time...

The last time I checked the Honda shop by me works on trikes, same with the Yamaha place. There are a few independent shops I would take the time to first though, they are cheaper and they work on the older machines more often anyways.

The Yamaha dealer is the closest shop to me, I have been going there for a while now and usually just buy my OEM parts from them even though they charge book prices, they treat me well so it's worth the couple of extra $$$. I have not had them work on my trike but I have dropped of a crank for bearings, and will talk to the mechanic about problems. I have even brought in one of my YTM's when I was having a weird noise that I thought was crank bearings, the mechanic listened to it and showed me how to use the stethoscope to hear the different noises, free of charge.
