Searched previous threads and haven't seen anything posted yet concerning this but I happen to be on Maier's website this morning and noticed they have removed the "Low Profile" fender for the 85-86 ATC250R. I gave them a call and spoke with a woman there and she said they have discontinued that fender from their line-up and will not be offering it anymore.
I hope in the near future someone will start reproducing plastic for our older trikes in more than 2 or 3 colors without a 10 order minimum....

Not sure, i wouldnt think so, not with the way a new sportquad comes out every year. maybe its some type of inventory reduction sale. i just find it very off to see new 450R stuff 1/2 off, but no trike stuff 1/2 off.

Low profile fenders look like crap anyway. If it's something you really can't live without, ask if they'll sell the mold they use to make it with. Then find a custom molder who'll mold it for you. It's a reach, but then you could get any color you want, and sell em !

well there is always the other option...certain distributors have where houses full of old stuff.
hell...there's a dealer here in baton rouge who has every part imaginable...and a multitude of old trike's stored away.

Is it possible that someone could buy the mold from Maier and produce the fenders themselves, since Maier isnt going to produce them?

They have also stopped making headlight shrouds. I've been toying with the idea of buying some molding equipment but not sure if I would be able to sale enough to justify the expense.

I found a new low-pro fender last week. I dont really like the way they look, but my 250r flat tracker had one. I am installing new OE honda plastic on my restoration and leaving the hondaline front fender extension and maier low profile in their packages on display with the trike.

eric, the price of a molding machine alone would kill your idea. You'd be better off finding a custom molder to mold it.

hello
is it a whole machine that makes these plastics? you would think not, that would mean that after every run of a bike they would have this big old piece of machinery laying around.
or do they use a technique like vacume forming where they would just make new dies for each plastics?
this seems like the logical way for them to do plastics.to replace a machine for every different plastics seems super expensive.

There are different ways you could make a fender, vaccume forming would probably be best (it's really cool to see too). Another option, probably not the best for fenders but great for smaller things, would be injection molding (which is what I do). You do not need a whole machine to make one part, you only change the mold. Still, it's not cheap to buy all this stuff.
