ok, so we all know how 2 and 4 strokes work.
one fires every rotation, one fires every 2 rotations.

my queston is this: why doesnt a 2 stroke produce more power and torque through all RPM ranges? theoretically, it should, since it fires twice as much as a four stroke.

because two strokes cant maintain compression like a 4 stroke can threw out the stroke, and usualy two strokes are half the cc's of a 4 stroke that is being compared to.

Because only produce tons of power when they're running at the right speed to be "volumetrically efficient", that is, in the "powerband". At all other times, they're running below efficiency and consequentially have less torque.

Well said RR. Can't really add anything to that statement.

wtf????????- lol
well a 4stroke- has a lot more flyweight-
they don't usually run at the same rpm-

I dont have a technical answer, but I think it has to do with weights.
Flywheel weights and camshaft and vavles and whatnot.
Its like trying to spin a truck tire and a bicycle tire. The truck tire doesnt get up to speed as fast, but once it does it takes a lot of energy to stop it, even at very low speeds. On the other hand, the bicycle tire can get up higher speeds faster, and the higher the speed the more force it takes to stop it. However, its so light that once it slows down enough, even though it still may be moving quite fast, it can be stopped quite easily.
I know where you are coming from...So why not increase the weight of the 2 stoke and make it act more like a 4 stroke with 2 stroke power??? I don't know. Theres more factors that play into it that I'm not aware of.

because it only takes 2 strokes to complete a combustion cycle, verses 4
2 stroke are pumping the power twice as fast. Also less rotational drag.
