250es vs. 250sx carb?

Are there any differences at all with these 2 carbs? Are they both jetted the same? My es's carb is leaking, I need to get a kit for it, but my sx's carb has been recently rebuilt, but I have other issues with the sx and need the es now to do some work. Just don't want to mess up my Big Red any, cause it is pretty clean. If it matters, the sx is an 85 and the es is an 87.

Just out of curiosity, are these motors the same with the exception of the color? One being black. Is that the only difference?

I think the Clymer manual covers both and should show the carb. I'd bet it was the same and if it is, grab an 86/87 250SX carb and don't but another 85 carb.

I have never had a problem with the '85 SX carbs, whether it be cold start or otherwise and thats including the 3 I've owned and the 4 Brapp has owned, none of which had the cold start kit installed. Toss the carb on and take it for a rip, I bet she will haul

I have the option too - either an 85 sx or es carb for the es. There is no difference is there?

Its a richer pilot and some rubber plugs. Its discontinued

The hard start issue could also be valves, listen for the gremlins tickin away :eek:

The 86/87 carbs also have a different hose setup, unless that is also included in the cold start kit.

i can make rubber plugs 250.... and a pilot should be avail right?

im going to try swapping it with a clean sx carb first and see if that helps.

valves are good - engine runs great

I would simply find the drill bit that fits the stock starter jet and go up a size or two in a drill index and drill it out until it fires well in cold weather.

The rubber hoses do nothing besides "combine" all the vent hoses.
