ok, on my 300 kit, the piston has an arrow pointing OUT from the center of the piston (NOT toward the center of the piston)
which way does this arrow point? i am getting told toward the exhaust side by everyone, but i still skeptical.
the ring gaps would then be on the intake side, and this will make the ring splits/gaps run right over the intake hole.
is that normal, or will having the gaps run past such a large port tear them up?
when i slide the piston through the cylinder, they do not catch.
:pics: are not possible, i dont have a digital camera.

when i rebuilt the z the arrow went toward the front or the exhaust. Check a manual or call a bike shop. good luck

The arrow points towards the exhaust... The rings wont travel far enough down in the bore for the gaps to be exposed by the main intake.... the gaps shouldn't line up with any ports if you have the correct piston... the gaps typically go to each side of the intake boost port..

the main intake port is quite large, and when the piston is pulled down far enough, the caps are exposed to the port. i will have to check this when i put the kit on the bottom end. to see if the rod pulls the piston down this far.
i would assume the piston is correct, as even the rings were ground to the proper specs.

arrow always to exhaust-
ring gap on intake-
letter on rings go on the top side towards the sky

look at the rings is there a little lip or step in the rings themself?
the rings have a lip to them on the outside the lips have to be going up on the top ring and down on the bottom, other wise they will drag in the cylinder and possibly snag a port

no, the rings are not beveled on the edges. if they are, it was done to both sides, as they look the exact same. i put the n50 stamp UP on both rings.
you dont have beveld egdes? this isnt a honda oem piston and ring setup is it?

The top of the piston never comes down far enough for the rings to be exposed in the intake port. Thats what the transfers are for ;)
