Alot of you have probably seen the post about my 1983 ATC 70 about how it runs *edited*. What would be the best project to do to it to make it fast and have power so when I give it gas in 1st gear it will lift off the ground ?

Id start by getting it to run right,,..............

Well I rebuilt the carb, sealed the gas tank, and put new gas lines on and cleaned the air cleaner. But the small black cap that goes on the end of the choke lever is missing and I think it's sucking air in and making it not idle and loosing all power.

Does this sound like a possibility ?

Wasnt this discussed already? I believe there was some advice on getting a new carb if that one has missing-broken parts.

Yes this was already discussed, but I don't see why ? I rebuilt the whole carb and it's shiny and clean ?

could it be the timing is off, and the valves are not adjusted ?

YTM200Boy II -

I have read all your posts. I think at this point and time - the best thing you could possibly do is take this ATC 70 to your local Honda shop and get them to work on it so it to will run right for you - or maybe have a friend go over your previous posts with you and point you in the right direction. Try someone from the 10th grade.

DONT buy a manual, ask them to get the bike running properly.

How old are you?

Damn that was funny!!

For the ATC70 guy: Start the motor on the atc70, then get some WD40 and spray around where you think there is an air leak. If it revs up or makes the idle change then it is leaking there. Do what you have to do to fix it. If it doesn't rev up then its not leaking and forget about that lever.
I would also like to know how old you are. Have you ever worked on any kind of motors before; take shop in school, etc.?

I am 17 and no I havent took any shops in motors but from trying to get this running its good learning...

I just towed my ATC 70 in 4th gear then shifted up. and it runs-revs/boggs while I was towing it behind my Tri-Moto then it dies.

But when I was towing it, it backfired loud maybe 2-3 times ?

Hell yeah! Thats the best way to learn in my opinion, BUT also READING the service manual for the motor your working on is a must. Read and re-read it.

Try it without the without the exhaust hooked up, it could be a plugged exhaust. Or it could be the timing, or a fouled plug, or low or no compression, or.., do you have a service manual?

Yes I got a service manual I took out the baffle and still nothing I havent checked the timing plug is fouled but when I put in a brand new one its fouled 3 minutes later and I can't check the compression because I dont have a working recoil starter ?

Just one question for ya's!!! Why is it when a machine as simple as a 70 has trouble's running it's automaticaly the carb ?? First you need to get a manual on the little machine, you can get a clymer for less than 25 dollar's that cover's all the little Honda motor's and then some. If you experience with these motor's is little to none than you should take all the info in and use that to make a diagnosis, instead of disagreeing with info..Now I personally am about 99.9% sure you did'nt check the point's..Get the machine on the compression stroke and make sure the mark's are lined up ,at the F mark make sure the point's just begin to open and the point's should be at .012-.016 at the T mark..F and T are the mark's you have to go by and be on compression stroke..Refer to a search on a previous thread for more info, but listen to what people are trying to tell ya ,ya mite learn someting..Don't take offence, just take it in...

I got a manual it doesn't really tell me much. And I need a special tool to get to the points ?

And no I haven't checked the compression because I don't have a pull start.
