Hey guys just put new piston and rings and timing chain, the chain was snug, how can I tell if it's to tight? losened the 10mm them the 14 mm they both tightened back down flush. with the motor, done it while it was running, what do I do? thanks Joe

It shouldn't be too tight. Sounds like the adjuster is bound up or something....

The top bolt is not to be touched, it's the 14mm that allows the torsion spring to put force on the chain and then when retightened it holds. You should be able to get some slack in it. If not, I'd yank the left engine cover and visually see how that adjuster works. If you got the chain over the sprocket than it should be the right chain. I would look into that adjuster and see whats up. All it is is 2 pieces of free sliding tubing with the lower chain tensioner mount attached to the bottom of it. These small hollow tubes tubes have an angle cut on the end of each of them, when you tighten that 14mm bolt, they bind up and hold the inner rod in position where the spring puts it. Does this make sense to you?? Hope so...

had to take the 10mm out and stick a small screw driver in the hole, to put a little slack in the chain to get the cam gear on, then pull the screw driver out, the chain got tight, it doesn't fill over tight, was just checking with ya'll ,this is just my second rebuild, first was a z50.
