Dont do that, your asking for trouble. Heat the housing with a torch, they will fall out.

even if you do beat the hell out of them nothing is going too happen. the outer cage for the bearing is very thing.

It took a lo of finesse, but they came out. We used a blow torch and penetrating oil combined with a bit of banging and prying.

Use your heads you guys. Its hard to get a swinger in a press and get good pressure on the berring, Too much heat can realy make you end up taking back steps. Just get a die grinder or dremmel and cut it out, Takes a little more time but you wont screw anything up.

or take a socket that is just a shade smaller than the bearing housing put a bolt through the hole with a bigger socket on the other end for bearing to fall through and a nut on the bolt and pull the sucker out. once you get one out grind down the old bearing just enough so that it wound get suck back in the swingarm and you know have a bearing push-er-outer tool for the other side. oh get some fender washers too.

May i ask whats so wrong about using heat? And please dont reply with "it makes it brittle"

I had a friend tack weld a nut to the bearing race then I threaded a rod into the nut through the swinger and tapped the bearing races out, worked great and didn't hurt the swinger at all. I had him practice on the stocker before doing it on the westcoast....

Its weak to begin with a little too much heat and it will melt right befor your eyes.

May i ask whats so wrong about using heat? And please dont reply with "it makes it brittle"I was referring more to the "pounding the bearings out with a hammer technique" than the heat, but I'm not too wild about using heat either. If you've got a nicely painted, powdercoated, or chromed swingarm, heat is not an option because you'll burn off the paint or discolor the chrome. Since the bearing need to be pressed in, doesn't it also stand to reason that they also need to be pressed out as well? Also, by "press", I don't mean you need to have a hydraulic press, or take it to a machine shop. Just like Breastman suggested, a simple 6" long 1/2 or 3/8" diameter bolt & nut will pull those bearings right out without any aggravation. It will also reinstall them too.
