Well I seen this post for a $100.00 Tecate 3. I asked him..."Still have it? whats it need? does it run? if it runs and you have it still i may buy it this weekend!"

He replied...
(it did run, it lost spark, the case leaks oil below shifter needs welded, no rear tires)

I asked him for some more info but what do you guys think so far regardless of year? I already know it will most likely need a new flywheel, and stator, tires, and most likely a re bore but with want he wants and what he said so far what do you all think? I will continually update this with what ever info I find out about it. Also would it be worth it to buy it just to part it and save a few other trikes?

Edit: See last post for the pic and update!

Well Tecates are certainly a riding experience like no other, it would be worth a restore just to experience a fresh Tecate IMO. Parts are faily plentiful on ebay, that is except some parts and they're impossible to find. Sounds doable, check it out, I'm partial to the 84-85 Tecates myself, but they are more common, if it's an 86-87 it is more rare, either way go for it.

My recent 85 t3 I picked up I paid 350 for it I think, and it wasnt running, but it had a franks swinger, worth the 350 to me now. I would pay 100 for this. It too could have some rare parts on it, worth more than 100...

Has to be seen to be judged to me but IF, and I put a lot of emphasis on the IF, that IS ALL IT NEEDS then for $100 I'd likely buy it.

Let me tell you, they are fun!

Update: I called him up and he told me that everything is there EXCEPT the rear rims and tires. He also said that the person who had it before him spray painted the plastics black but it looks like green is coming though where there is scuffs and what not so that means its an 86 or 87 right? On the issue with the leaking oil, he said there was a crack below the shifter where oil slowly leaks out. Its not missing any chunks, its just a crack. He said that the shock seems to be good(not blown). He also mentioned that he got it plus cash on a trade, The guy he got it from said that he was riding it and it died on him and he no longer had spark anymore(stator?), this was after he had redone the top end. So any new thoughts, and what hop-up parts are available for these?

I will have pictures of it this weekend or the following. I am hoping this weekend. My plans would be to clean it up decent and ride it, then maybe this winter do a tear down and some painting and powder coating.

It wasnt just the 86-87's that came in green, could be an 85, not sure about the 84's though, think they were just red.

I would go for it, I personally know a guy that is ready to unload a LOT of tecate stuff, you could probably get what you need fairly cheap.

GO FOR IT!

I'm pretty sure 84's came in both red and green.

But heck, for $100, I'd say it's worth it. If it was near me I'd probably grab it myself.

the t3 came in kawi green since the day it first rolled off the assembly line, the 84-85 also came in wildfire red also, as the 86-87 was only green.
