got my 200x now i got to decide what to use for the engine heres the options i'm looking at (i know i said i wanted a autox but maybe a clutch would be more fun i just dont have any exp with them and i think the current one is burnned up)

1. fix whats there and have a stock 200x

2. use 200x topend w/ spare 200auto w/recoil

3. use 200x topend w/ 85 200m w/electric and recoil bckup

4. use 200x topend w/ 82 200e w/electric and recoil bckup and dual range tranny

please help with your opinions i just can't decide

I'd probably go with the stock motor.
For a couple reasons, one being that I like the kickstart much better than pull start, and I feel more in control with a clutch.
I'd assume that it's also easier to obtain high performance parts like camshafts and pistons for the X motor than a 200S.
What all needs to be done to the stock motor?

well i made some adjust for carb per book specs and it seems to idle and rev okay but smokes abit and when i put it in gear does not have much behind it not sure if this is a clutch problem or engine it does seem to bogg a little accelerated in gear in 3rd its about as fast as my 200m in 2nd

actually all performance motor parts for the 200 hondas work on any honda 185/200... example
wiseco 12:1 piston for 200x will work in a 200s
webcam cam for 200x will fit a 185s

id go with the last one a dual range tranny would be sweet in an x plus the electric start would be nice just my 2cents

i saw just recently on another thread that honda electric start won"t fit in an 84 200x frame can anyone else confirm this? if it is possible i would realy like to use the electric start engine.

I don't think the electric start motor clears the frame in a 200X build, I've heard of people cutting out/reshaping areas of the front downtube to clear it. You might have to cut a section out and rebuild it with a curve in it to let the electric start engine fit.

I believe you would have to put a dent/nock in in engine cradle for the starter to clear.

i'll do what i can w/tape measure maybe i'll only know for sure is if i just take it out and try it then modd the frame if ncessary when i get there thats alot fo time though if it turns out to be to much in the way

I like this idea. It is what I am planning on.

2. use 200x topend w/ spare 200auto w/recoil

You can notch the frame to make the electic start fit, but im about 100% sure you wont be able to get the dual range to fit because of the placement of the swinger, unless you lengthed your frame.
