I talked to a guy about them. Supposedly most all of them went to Team Kawasaki and further more were destroyed. Sad but true. However I do have a lead on one also. We shall see.

Well I finally got an answer. The guy is in Des Moine, Iowa which makes me think this thing is legit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Jimmy White from there? The guy swears its the real deal, never had fuel in it. Built for short track racing. Also has an aluminum air box lid never used. Are you sitting down? wants $1,500 for the pair!! Alot of coin, but how can you put a price on something so rare?

Holy smokes. Have you seen any pics? That's alot of cash...
tecat-z
10-23-2007, 07:33 PM
Yes, lots of cash indeed!! But there are probably a few members here that would pony up that kind of cash for "original" factory race parts from Team Green. Personally, i couldn't afford that, nor would i ever want to use such rare parts for riding, in fear of crashing and damaging them. If you aren't going to buy them, consider asking around here for any interested parties. If someone is willing to pay such a high price for parts, they would typically go to a very safe environment.

Oh I am going to buy them, and they will go on my 85 which I am currently restoring to old school racing standards. It will have a comfy life in my finished basement next to my ex-NACS factory cannondale. I just cant believe I found it. It all started from a simple phone call to Darryl Bassani himself looking for a N.O.S. silencer.

As a matter of fact someone here does. I forget his name, but I know he has a couple mint Franks trikes and a Franks-framed Tecate that Jimmy raced. I will try to find those pics.

did you end up getting these item's if you did post some pics
dcreel

Yes, he did get the items and then sold the whole Tecate for $3500. Which was the steal of a lifetime. He even found a NOS UFO airbox, and NOS Bassani exhaust for it. Try to find a NOS Hoosier front tire these days.. If I had had the money this thing would be living inside my house. This is the yardstick that all Tecate's are measured in my eyes.

dcreel's got alot of this rare stuff. I held him at knife-point once, but he overpowered me. Ive been workin' out now though......(lol). Tecate folk have alot stashed away, that's good though, it's a preservation deal. And neat to see the keepers of Tecate parts, as not many, and were so dominate and rare. Lot's of cool new stuff made, which makes me happy (no patience to track down cool old school, and I wouldn't want to break a rare part/item).

Many of the "I want one" posters for this tank product are not what I would consider active any more at this point in time, but for those that browse + research + dig into hints + clues, there are a select few with HRE being one of them that still performs one off (or more of and different product line up) custom works of art.
Key to whole thing is knowing what you want (that YOU can not make) and finding the right person who will say let me show you "How its made"

Ummm, details there Mr. John if you please!!!!

John,
I've seen your work, and therefore I have to ask.... (Even though its a bit off topic) Is a copy of this short track Team Green tank possible from any of the materials you use?
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/cc461/HuffieVA/kxtstt1-1.jpg
I want to use it on my flat track project, but I can see myself tapping wheels with someone and cartwheeling off the track and destroying history...

Oh, more of a plug for HRE bkm,,,
Huffie, I have not tested the current high impact plastic resins that I am spinning the Tecate + 86 Tri-Z coolant bottles from to see if it would hold up to gasoline, it had been glycol (antifreeze) tested by manufacture and okay.
Now as far as making them, oh yeah, very much do-able (not by me at this point in time)
The main pieces of equipment would be a rotational machine, like the one I built, and a mold of the tank.
In getting back to the tank topic, screw Clark. I am just done waiting on them to get mold corrected or what ever they are attempting to do.

Love the aluminum tank. Looks alot better then a green one for sure. Why not just make these kinds of tanks?

Let me know. Thanks.
What about for an '86/'87 ???

Yes that's where Jimmy was from,I past right by there wensday night at 10:00 pm.lol That might be one they were building for me in 85' but they wanted me to pay for it. I needed 3 of them but they were $500 each back then.
That would actually be very easy to make, there are no complex curves. Just make up some templates and you could rip out a bunch quick. Too bad Ben is getting out of the first gens, that would be a project he could tackle.

Has anyone gotten a tank from HRM or used a smaller tank on their Tecate? My stock tank will not fit with the pipe of the 500 so I need a different tank and short track style would suit me just fine. Thinking an old kx80 tank would look sweet.
