Ok my trike is a 200s. My exciter coil died. I called my local honda dealer and they said they can't get an oem coil in for a couple weeks but they have a couple aftermarket ones in stock. Does anyone see any harm in using aftermarket vs oem? A coil is a coil..right? As long as it has the proper resistance the rest of my electrical system should be ok... right?
Next question. It' gets cold here in the winter. What do you guys do as far as winterization? I plan on running the old girl as much as i can. Should i use a thinner grade of oil or will the honda stuff be ok? Any tips on geting the trike ready for some winter rompin would be appreciated.
Final question. I got another gas tank that is in better shape than mine. Problem is that it sat with fuel in it long enough for it to gum up inside. Anyone have some secrets on cleaning the crud out?

?1 ...go ahead should be ok
?2 just use thinner oil and let it warm up
and for the 3rd question use some sea foam...put it in and slosh it around..that should do it

I do. It is the only additive that I have used where there was a noticeable difference in throttle response, idle, smoothness (it was my 4-cylinder motorcycle), it is great stuff!

Oil weights in Degrees Fereinhight for the Atc200 models:
10w-30 0-85F
10w-40 0-unlimited
20w-40 15-unlimited
20w-50 15-unlimited
Something to help your wheeler start easier in the winter if it is stored outside or in an unheated building, would be to pull it out into the sun for 15 or 20 minutes and let the sun warm up the metal and the oil a little before trying to start it. 20w-50 gets pretty thick during the winter, and makes for really hard, if not impossible pull-starting. I'd go with the 10-30 or 10-40 for winter. If you are going to start it every week or so, then you should be ok.
One problem I have found during winter riding is that through the freezing and thawing of the snow, it will melt and drip into every little crevice on my wheeler, and then later after the snow has frozen again and I go to ride it everything will be frozen solid. My tires have even frozen solid to our cement patio outside.
Also if you let the bike sit for a while, be prepared to have flot spots (not flat tires, lol)on the tires. Becuase of the cold weather they will not smooth out as fast, and may take a while for the tire to warm up enough to regain its shape.
It is easier on the bike if you give it a little longer to warm-up in the cold weather.
Thats about all the winter tips I can think of.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but if anyone could help a fell out it would be much appreciated. I got all new parts for my electrical system, both coils for the magneto (exciter and the one for lights) , new cd box and new ignition coil. I didnt need all of those parts but i got one hell of a deal i couldnt pass it up. Anyways i cannot get the magneto off the God damned thing. I got a puller like this: http://www.toolsource.com/harmonic-balancer-puller-pi-68771.html
Ayhow i broke the orig bolts trying the first time (i bought 2 2inch long bolts to thread into the magneto) so i went and got hardened ones. Same thing. Its like its welded on there. I tilted the trike on its side so the magneto is facing up and filled the center with penetrating oil hoping its gonna seep in somehow. Can aonone offer some input?

I've never had much luck with a harmonic balancer puller. I buy all of my from a dealer on ebay. Here is the item # you are looking for: 260184252528. Enter that in the search column. I've pulled some very stubborn flywheels with these pullers. It also helps to use a good air impact wrench and once pressure is applied with the puller, tap the flywheel with a SOFT mallet, then keep turning the puller, then tap. DO NOT use a hammer because it will crack the magnets inside the flywheel. Hope this helps. Also, they have all these pullers in stock. They ship fast and they're out of Florida. Good luck.

i also hooked it between two trees with a come-a-long and some cable, cranked that beast tight, and wacked it with a hammer.
granted that didn't work either, but i don't think you'll have tried that one. lol.
