wiring must not be good somewhere else.

sounds like the kill switch may have took a crap or there is a loose ground wire.

Pop the clutch. The 250r doesn't need a kill switch.

Just take the switch apart. The problem will probably jump out at you. The contacts corrode over time. Take them out and hit them with very fine sandpaper and use a tiny drop of light grease on them when reinstalling. You may also have a soldered connection that came loose.

well, he used a NEW switch, so its not a switch problem. its surely a wiring problem.

although this is unrelated, my uncle rebuilt a 2 stroke bike once, and when put back together anf fired it up, it instantly pegged out. something was not right in the carb. needless to say, it wouldnt shut off.....kill switch and spark plug wire removed. the fire never left the cylinder, thus not letting it turn off.......

Use VOM meter and check the wiring. Once you find power, work your way back to the switch.

I had an 85 250R that did the same thing. The ground wires t together behind the headlight and the one running to the kill switch was broken right by the connector. A quick splice and it was good to go.
