Well, thats what I told my wife when she found out I bought a quad.:D Right after you replied to my post how a BR with a 300 motor and SX gearing would be the ultimate setup I went on Ebay and found this gem for $500. It runs great but has a blown rear. I figured it was a good start since it has everything for the swap and I have a spare angle drive in the basement. Hopefully I can part the rest and make most of my $ back. Now I just need a good SX rear too. Enjoy the pics.

It's all in good fun. The wife is fine with it. Looks like a busy winter ahead. Swap the 300 into the BR, restore on of my 70s, swap a 110 motor into the other and do a complete go through on the 1980 110 with the Bandito frame and stroker motor. I might also send my 300R motor to Jason Hall to make it a little more competitive in the drags. On a side note, what has anyone who did this swap run for exhaust???? It looks like I might be able to sneak the stock 300 pipe on the BR but I wont know for sure until I take it apart.

We used the standard SX exhaust on our 300 SX. So I would assume the standard BR exhaust would be fine as well.

I appreciate it. Any way you could copy the wiring diagram for the TRX and mail it to me?

It's an 89. I have the same manual you do John and pulled it out right after I posted thinking it would work.

That must be for the oil temp light on the dash. It would be cool if I could retrofit that on the BR.

say what you want about a quad...a 300 honda might be the greatest engine ever designed. a thing of beauty. start a brand new atv, takes a second or two, start a 14 year old honda 300 that's been sitting for two months, it clicks, and you're running.
goodluck with the swap man.

John, are the 85,86 and 87 fourtrax 300cc? I thought they were the 250's. For some reason I thought 88/89 were the first years of the 300's:wondering
I'll check our manual when i get back to my dads house, won't be till next week though:eek:

Looks to be a 91 or older going by the head pipe. They always ran the best. The weakest point of the TRX 300 is the rear differential. They hold next to no oil, nobody ever checks let alone changes it, and they get water in them, bearings go out, gears get destroyed, and the splines on the ring gear carriar rust away and the axle ends up spinning in the carriar, not to mention the wheel hubs and axle splines doing the same thing. They are a good rig though and will last forever. My dad just redid an 88 model with all new plastic, seat, new paint on the tank and so on. Looks like new and the engine and drivetrain have never been touched and it runs better then new.

Here's some progress pics.:naughty: It came apart real easy, no frozen bolts or anything. The one thing I noticed is the engine seems to be quite a bit lighter than the BR engine. For Oldred95 the gear oil looks like a thick paste of rust so I guess the seller was telling the truth when he said the rear was bad.Twilight, the front suspension is a single A arm with a strut type shock if you're interested. I even have the certificate of origin for the frame and the owners manual.

Hunt ebay for a new rear diff. My dad bought one off there for 500 brand new in the box. Honda gets 1000 for them.

Pretty much. You just have to swap the angle drive. Jason T swapped one into his SX and it gave me the insperation for this.

I'd just pick up one of those 75$ EBAY SX differentials (if you want a bit more speed) and rebuild it. Aside from the pinion nut tool you'll have to buy, it's a piece of cake.
