problems with 83 250r

well the other day my bike stopped running completely and yesterday i decided to find out what went wrong well i found out that my break light wire got pinched and grounded to the chassis but i thought the coil and lights were on a diff. stator
but i got it started today and i was able to make one trip around the block and it started backfireing and sputtering

anyone know what could be wrong? :wondering

sounds like carb issues.

Yeah usually backfireing/popping is a lean symptom. You should rebuild your carb/blow it out and put it back togeather\ and install an inline fuel filter.

well all of a sudden now its not doing it but i also richened it up one needle clip notch but its starting to breakup in the top end

richening your needle clip should not affect your top end.

check you exhaust manifold for leaks? backfire on decel?

backfired when trying to rev engine but its running good right now all the problems stopped for now

Sounds like crap in the carb, the pinched wire is probably a coincedence...

Are you running an inline gas filter? I'd be sure that where the rear carb rubber boot attaches to the airbox that it has been cleaned and siliconed. This is a common place for dirt to enter prior to the air filter and it makes its way into the carb.

yes im running a filter and i may not have siliconed it but it makes a great connection
