Its started fouling plugs rather quickly and small small backfires... I switch the plug and it runs great! 1-2 hours later it wont idel and needs a new plug black and wet.

what plug should I be running? wondering if a hotter plug would help.

Chances are it's not the plug. I don't have the plug # right now, someone else will chime in and give you that. You have carb issues. The carb will need to be cleaned. First, check your air filter. If it is clogged or very dirty, you're running too rich (lack of air in the mixture). If your filter is good, it's time to pull the carb. One more thing, ALWAYS, ALWAYS run a fuel filter between the petcock and carb. These are only a couple bucks at Napa or Auto Zone and can save you some headaches with carb cleanings. It doesn't matter how clean the inside of your tank is, gas has dirt in it. If you're lucky, it will be the filter. Good luck.

OK ,let's brief on this ! There's 3 things you wanna check rite off the bat on that,3 thing's..First I am gonna suggest you take the CDI cover off on the left side of the motor, where the pulse generator is.Take the CDI cover off and Also, take the screw out of the top of the stator cover,Located rite next to the pull-start ,also left side,lol..Rotete the flywheel until the T mark on the fly wheel is lined up with the mark inside the srew ,Thread's..Easy to identify.Make sure the contact piont at the pulse generator is allinged properly with the flywheel,if it's 180 degrees off ,your not on the compression stroke so rotate the flywheel 180 degree's until it's at the mark I mentioned last sentance. Now chance's are that that's not it but you just eliminated a 25% that it is(but you just eliminated timing),check the pulse generator spring's also, while your in there. It's honestly probably the screw on the bottom of the carb, get a carb kit ,you can find 'em for the 25-30 dollar range.I would suggest taking the carb off and rebuilding it for sure ,it's a bear getting at the Big Red carb's and I'm sure you don't want the hassle. But it's probably the idle mixture jet/ slow jet on the bottom. When you have the carb off ,and your going threw it,make sure the float is at 14-16 mm ,not 100% but I think ,and make sure that the screw on the bottom has a rubber o-ring and a little baby washer on it.That screw control's the idle and it's a pretty good chance that the carb is getting too much gas and not enough air-flowage,And make sure that air cleaner is clen also, maybe even see how it run's with-out the air lid on for a minute..Just a couple thought's,and my 2 cent's!!

Adjust air screw and idle screw - air screw turn in all the way and back out 1 1/4 turns - idle screw turn in all the way and back out 4 turns - change plug or clean the one you have get it going and take it for a run - readjust carb if required. Put in a hotter plug.
I have a big red 200E - Do you know if they ever came with a generator that bolted to the back rack?
