View Full Version : 1984 200S rear brake drum removal??
Arrrrrgggghhhhhh.......I am trying to remove my rear brake drum off of a 1984 Honda 200S to replace the brake shoes. I looked in the manual and have removed the two nuts and oring but how does the drum come off? Does it thread off or is it just froze on the axle? Ive used alot of PBlaster and a dead blow hammer to try to shock it off but no go. Got any tips or tricks?
Thanks,
Scott

did you disconnect the cable going to the arm? if arm is actuated slightly it will be held in.does wheels/axle spin freely. oh yeah, also, behind the 2 nuts and washer there is an oring on the drum that tends to hold it on . patience needed, and a hammer,-haha

your doing it the right way, its not threaded. you have to use ALOT of penetrating oil and give it some time to work. i got mine off using a modified bearing puller hooked through the 6 holes, but another thing that supposedly works well is pounding the axle out of the trike (through the left) and the brake drum comes loose when you do this. you'll have to take off your chain guard and chain to do it that way. also, don't mushroom the threads where your pounding. put the castle nut on backwards so its flush with the axle, and use a piece of wood between the axle and the hammer
Thanks guys for the replies. I have removed the oring and added more penetrant and a few more whacks with the hammer. If I cant get it by morning then Ill try the axle removal method. Thanks again for the hints.
