First off let me say I am new to the board. I have been choppin at the bit to post a few questions but I had to wait 3 days to be authorized.

I am a tinkerer. I like getting things that need 'help'. I have always thought 3 Wheeler where bad ass but I have never owned one. I always rode others. Well for our wedding anniversary this year my wife surprised me with a 3 wheeler! :w00t: It is I think maybe a an 81, or 83  It was baught as a 185 but upon inspection we found the motor to be a 200 :w00t: When I recieved it she was in need of some serious help. Motor runs fine but cosmetics where very bad.. I also recieved one 185 that was complete but did not run. Parts trike. Lots of the parts on it where newer then the 200. Some after switching and upgrading she started to look much better. 2 nights ago I recieved some racks for it (Rear and Front). So I bolted them up and I think they look good. They are in need of some sanding and painting which will happen this weekend. I have included some pictures of what it looked like when I got it. Then some of what it was like after adding a front fender and painting the plastics black. Then with the edition of the racks and the voltage gauge for the batteries. I entend to build a small box to house the guages but for now they are just mounted.

So on to the questions:

1. Possible to add guage for Gas tank and Oil Pressure?
2. Being that the engine is air cooled, is there a way to help cool it more? Maybe a engine add on/upgrade?
3. The trike has a switch for lights, but what charges the batteries for the lights?

heyy :welcome: to 3ww!
first id like to start by sayin nice catch on marryin the one you did, any woman that will buy u a new toy like that for your anniversary is a good wife in my opinion  anyways, i dont beleive honda ever made a 185 with electric start so i dont think its a 185 but im sure someone else will chime in and say for sure.. if you can find the vin # off the engine and off the frame someone will run it for you and let you know exactly what it is, im not sure where they are on there but someone here can tell you, for the frame vin try looking on the neck that comes up to the handle bars, heres a link that will help u narrow down what it is, this is the specifications for all 3 wheelers made, obviously u want to look under honda, and its no older then 1980 so i wouldnt waste the time looking at years older then that http://www.3wheelerworld.com/spexhome.shtml just compare things like if it has reverse, size of tires, high-low range, electric start, 4, 5, or 6 speed trans, shaft drive or chain(im sure its chain), brake setup etc etc you will most likely be able to narrow it down pretty good with doing that but like i said earlier posting the vin #'s on here will tell ya for sure, also ill include a few links for parts and you can put a post on here for parts, lots of ppl here have parts you are likely to find what you need right on here, hope this helps you and have fun with that thing! you will be hooked for life now :D :w00t: :beer

Welcome to 3 Wheeler World!

From those pictures it looks like you have a '83 atc 185S with a 200s motor in it. With a few more pictures or frame and engine #'s I'm sure we could figure it out.

I have not heard of anyone adding a gas gauge, it seems like it would be more work then it would be worth considering how easy it is to remove the cap and look in the tank to see how much gas you have.
As for the oil pressure gauge, I don't know. I bet you could add one but I don't know if anyone has and I never looked into it.

If you are running a stock motor and the carb. is jetted correctly cooling should not be an issue. People with modded motors may need some more cooling in which case an oil cooler can be added by tapping into an oil passage in the clutch cover. Here is a good thread to show that, there are more if you seach the forum... http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=28433

Your trike should have lights but nothing charges the battery because you don't have a battery. The lights run off the lighting coil that is behind the pull starter, next to the stator coil. The lights are on when the engine is on, they get brighter as the engine revs higher.

Thanks for the info guys.

Trike is:

Chain driven
Recoil Start
Full automatic clutch that shifts down when I go fast and up to down shift :wondering
No reverse or high/low
5 speed

here is the vin off the frame:

Once I find out what year the frame is then I can buy some new brake pads :) How do I determine what size chain to get? Mine is pretty well stretched out. Whats the best chain to get? I would like to do an oil change on it but am not sure which oil to use. I am a huge Lucas oil additive fan, can I add some to the new oil change? Any recommendation are :welcome:

its a 1984 200s it will take a 520 chain that is 84 links long. i use D.I.D chain but its costly.

the brake pads on them fit 185/185s/200/200s/200m and few more.

what ever oil you use make sure its not synthetic oil. i did that once and killed my clutch plates.

Yup, just like 84 said, it is a 1984 Honda atc 200s frame.

your wife has no idea what she started :)

She does now :) I am already looking for another.. maybe a honda 350 :) One for going fast and the other for trail riding. I actually decided not to get a quad but stick with the 3 wheelers. There is nothing like be different!

Thansk for the info, now I can get the stuff I need. Also is there any oil change schedules? LIke 3000 for car but for a honda 84 200s?

Anyway suggestion on specific oil and or additives? Chain oiling? Shock maintanence? Clutch maintanence? Anything else? I want my 200 to live and continue to run good :)

Oh anyone sell any custom seat covers?

I usually change my oil right before I burn it down!!

Normally about every 6-8 hours of seat time. I don't know what is recomended - but as hard as I drive it I would rather be safe than sorry.

I run motorcycle oil, 10-40 or 20-50. I would not use additives, just change your oil more often. I think the book recommends 30W gear oil on the chain.

it really depends on how much you use it. i use to ride it all day fri, sat, and sun so i would change my oil every other week. but thats when it was semi stock. after i moded my engine all to hell. once i did that the oil had to be changed every weekend. i used 10w40. i am now using 50 wt and it seems to be helping. but for stock i would say 10w-30 or 10w-40 will work for ya

hey man, heres a link where you can download a service manual for it that will answer all your questions above, i think its still free but a member here on the boards (dammit!) is kind enough to put all this info on there for us and he has to pay for the website, so he will be changing it to charge $1.00 per download to cover his cost of the website, i dont think he has changed it yet but if not a donation of a couple dollars to him is always a nice thing to do..anyway, heres the link to download it http://www.drivehq.com/file/ShowFile.aspx?catID=0&subCatID=0&view=&sort=&isInc=&isGallery=true&share=true&shareID=233462&parentID=636956&fileID=4212723&curPage=0&ft=8/26/2006%204:33:29%20PM and heres the link to his post with all the other manuals and his donation info, read his first post in this link.. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/showthread.php?t=56218&highlight=service+manual
if you want to buy a regular service manual for it instead of one on the computer www.denniskirk.com should have it or ebay.
oh and as for the custom seat, another member here on the board moshman355 and his wife mrs.moshman make custom seats for us and do an excellent job at it also! heres there link http://www.cosmicquads.com/4436.html
hope it helped

Hey there! Welcome to the boards and I hope we can help you with your problems!

I like the 200's and 185's, but I wanna know what kind of fenders were on that thing in the first photo! Almost look like Blaster fenders or something!

Also: the first time I've heard of someone trying to add a gas gauge or oil pressure gauge to their trike! I think that gauges are dangerous, you have to look away from the terrain to look at them!

I have no clue. But they are bad ass! I am looking for some matches somwhere and am going to replace them with new ones! Thanks for the manual link!

Guages, They are going on the trail bike which will not be going super fast anyway :) I will post some pics of the guages and installs for future reference. I am still looking for any tips that I should know about maintaining the 3wheeler. Hmm, I need a name for her... any ideas?

name it RUTH - cuz those trikes are ruthless! mines a mini dozer.

or you could name it WANDA (what-a-honda!)

CONSTANCE - because it will live forever...

what about ATHENA?

never thought about naming my trikes... guess my 110 would be named Ashley

Hate to bring up an old post but I think I fiannly nailed down the fender type: Yamaha Warrior Type C16

That looks identical in everyway.
