Allright, the journey started a year and a half ago. I am at my wits end now. I am ready to part it out on flea bay.

Went riding with my friends this weekend and it blew another base gasket :| The only thing left to do is regut the engine and have the cases machined.

I luv riding this thing, I am sick of working on it.

Any ideas on what I should ask for the parts?

Ill probably take a thing or two off you if your serious.

I know what you mean though. My Z's on its 3 topend this year!!!! Mostly my fault, but I am also SO TIRED of pulling the head and wrenching on it.

I cant remember what yours looks like, post up a pic.

As far as prices, start out low on ebay, your parts will climb to what their worth.

Send your motor out to a shop to have it gone through and rebuilt. That way it is done right and you don't have to worry about it.

I've had the motor completely open and everything replaced.... the only thing I didn't have done was the case decked....

I believe here lies the problem. you don't have two flat surfaces for the base gasket to seal.

If you part it I too am intrested in some parts. ;)

I would say get the parts machined and by then all the bugs would probably be worked out of it and then all you have to worry about is riding it :D Mine was a pain too, but I was chasing around problems with the sleeve not being installed properly. Took me three tear-downs but I finally figured it out! But I'm glad I did because it is more fun riding it now knowing things are working like they should

I went through some tough times with my Z too, but now that I worked out the problem, it's been fun riding it. I say be patient and fix it. My friend with quads said to quit blowin money on an old bike and upgrade to a quad, but when we go riding, there's nothing else like it. You should get 2. One to ride while the other one is being worked on.

I'm glad to hear your gonna tough it out. Even if there's alot of folks that can use Z parts. I'm kinda in the same boat as you.. too much time and money to turn back now.

I hope all works out for ya! :beer

Im glad to here your giving it another run. It was a pain in the neck getting mine to run right finally, but it was WELL worth it. Riding it now without any fears of breakdown is a great feeling.

Good luck! :beer

If you are sure that the case surfaces are completely flat, get a nice OEM or Vesrah base gasket and put a very light coat of Threebond 1211 on both sides.

I wish it went down like that. It started as a base gasket, found out the last machinist forked the bore up, so a new sleeve, porting.......yada yada yada
