Do any of you guys that Ice race on here have any tips for building a racer (tires, stud type, amount of studs, special patterns of studs, normal ride hight or lowered, length of swinger, etc.)? I'm going to be using an '85 T-3. What kind of things have worked good for you in the past?

Well the main thing you want to do is lower the suspension.

The 86 Tecate has an adjustable link in the suspension you can use on the 85 to lower the rear when you want.

Also the front forks can be changed internally to lower the front of the bike as shown in the following PDF.

Stock length swingarm will allow you to turn sharper then an extended swinger.

If you had a Honda, this would be great information, but hopefully this site can help you some.....

Pick up a spare frame and extend the neck about 3 inches. Get a spare swingarm and shorten it 2 inches. If you're running non studded class use the Maxxis 4- Snow tires and get a pair of rear wheels widened 3 inches. You'll get crazy traction with them stretched on those wheels. If you're running studded then I highly recommend Cheng Shin C826 rear tires. They're hard as a rock and your gold screws won't fly out of them. Stud every knob. Also, make yourself a pair of nerf bars.

Thanks everyone! This is an awesome start. How big should the studs be?

Get the course thread screws and use the 5/8" length.
