ATF works also. THe weight is your preference for the most part.

Atf or 10w fork oil is stock. I usw 15w since I'm 6'4" and 215#.

I tried atf and it was a little light I used 10-30 valvoline synthetic last time it may not be correct but it worked great.

If your really aggresive, go over big jumps, track ride a lot, you'll want a heavier weight (15 or 20, do they even make 30 any more?) oil for sure.

You can screw with the oil level height too. A bit more then stock will stiffen the forks up sooner in the travel.

To be exact pour oil in with springs removed, pump up and down a few times and measure the the height in tubes with them fully extended. You can watch with a flashlight and see exactly when tape measure or what ever you use touches the oil, then take that reading at top of tube. Then add a bit to raise level an 1/8 to a 1/4 or 3/8" or so.

If you just trail ride then you can run a bit less oil then recommended so you use more of the travel.

Motor oil for sure is the wrong thing to use in forks, I don't see how the forks will work right with a multi viscosity oil but if your happy with them, that's all that matters !

Im 240, so the atf dont work at all for me, i use straight 30 weight and it works wonders for the whoops and smaller jumps i ride over on a daily basis. My springs prob need replacing anyway so maybee the 30 wt is just compensating for that.
