the 85 350x I have been tooling with is difficult to shift into neutral. I have adjusted the clutch as much as possible and still it is HARD to FIND neutral. I shift right past it when trying to get into it. I can get in to neutral - and it is easier if it is running (if that helps)

need a new set of disks? tranny damage?

share your experience!!

thanks

Your cable is probably sticking. Lube it or try a new one. The 85 model has the cable running right near the exhaust header and the heat gums up the insides.

Uhh maybe you're just not used to it? I always had trouble finding neutral on my friend's Blaster. It might have too much slop in the shift fork or something?

is the idle to high? try rocking it a bit when finding N

The clutch basket Is probly grooved up, not letting the clutch disc's float when the clutch Is released internally.

I'll second the vote on neutral being a grooved basket. But if it still does it when it's not running, there are a few things in the external shifting mechanism that come loose or wear out and can also cause a tough neutral. On the 350X it's behind the stator cover side of the motor.

bent shift fork maybe?

cable doesn't stick - and i may not be used to it but I have had enough honda's to know its not right.

I will test the running/not running again and see how much of a difference there is.

thanks for all the feedback... I guess I am just procrastinating pulling the cover off because I will have to buy the clutch kit and gasket?

Why do I like basket case bikes and high maintenance women?

It's def. not a cable issue.... or an idle issue. The 350Xs are notoriously tough to find neutral. There is no "notch" between 1st and 2nd gears to indicate it, but it's more like a a half click on the shifter. When mine is put into neutral, the shifter is clicked onto the "step" between 1st and 2nd gears.

Some people are easy with their "def nots" without being there to test it. Take the cable off and see if you can slide the inner freely by hand.
