my tires are 25x12x9 when i look at atv tire sites this seems to be a rare size, are all tires listed in this order ( hight/width/rim diameter ) or are dimension numbers often switched by different brand? also if my rim is 9" wide how do I know how wide of a tire I can put on it? THANKS

a 25-11-9 would work too. i think most the 25 inch tires are 25-11- (what ever your rim is)

I think all atv tire brands go by the height-width-rim description.
If the tire says its made for a 9" rim then it should fit regardless of height or width within reason. You could probably run 11", 12", or 13" wide tires and be ok, but anything wider or skinnier than that and I would be a little weiry. I think a lot of tires out there are skinnier because that is what the 4 wheel industry runs on their quads. However, there is still an ok selection of 25x12-9 tires out there.
A good site for tires is:
Rockymountainatv.com

Also www.dunlopatv.com is a manufacturer of a lot of our atv tires including the 250r front and rear spider tread tires. They have a lot of tire information such as tire weights, actual tires measurments down to a hundreth of an inch, along with the more common rounded-off tire size, rim width the tire is made to mount to, ply ratings, and mounting and operating pressures. You will also find a lot of older style atv tires that where made for our type of atv's. A lot of todays tires seem to be mud style oriented, making it hard to find different knobby tire setups.
Anyway, hope this helps some.

I have a Big Red and have looked for tires for the rear and have found a big enough selection to pick from. I'm looking to get a set of Interco Swamp Lite tires. Might be what you're looking for to perform in the mud, that's what I'm getting them for. Chris
