So I applied this goo to both sides of a new gasket for the bottom of my cylinder fully expecting to just throw the top end back on and be good to go. This was not the case though.. I had trouble with the rings, got aggrivated (and drunk) and now the stuff dried and the cylinder is sitting on the workbench.

So I wonder if I'll have to scrape the nice new gasket off and replace it? 30 bux for another top end kit!! can just that gasket be bought somewheres? Or can I get away with applying more goo to whats already there.

Also, I removed the head to give me some better clearance during installation and I'm wondering about reusing the metal gaskets? There's about an hour or two tops on a freshly rebuilt motor and those look to still be in good shape.

It would really be aggrivating to have to take it all back apart if the gaskets fail, i say get new ones, my .02

I only use Three bond where two metal surfaces mate that have no gasket at all.

4 stroke rocker arm covers and some 2 stroke center cases come to mind.

I'd definitely scrap those gaskets you tried to use.

I was thinking of scraping the gasket off and just trying the 3 bond on the base of the cylinder. (just because money is an issue right now) but I guess I'll just wait and do it right so I wont have to do it again. :(

You will have much more piece of mind if you wait to do it right. :beer

dont use that stuff. its a pain to work with, it does more harm them good. bikes from the factory do not use it, just gasket on metal. i used it on my wifes old cr80 thinking i would be helping it out..turned out guy at the honda dealer told me to stay away from it, he worked there for 30 years on motors.
