Okay so heres what ive gathered,

Exhaust system. Im going to go with custom. a 400ex muffler (aftermarket if possible and possible a 450r headpipe.
Xr200 Carb is bigger right? and the intake to make that work?
Ive got 86 200x hubs for extra width and also have offset rims and im buying 18-11-8 fast trekkers tire wize.
Im going to get stock 350x tank shrouds and drilla hole to use those
I have a stock 250r headlight (85 86)
And im buying a stock 85 R front fender.

How easy are new clutchs to put in?

This about sum it up for the simple mods or am i missing anything??
And does the XR200 carb swap thinger work?
Thanks!
Craig

the xr200r carb and intake should work. ive herd it works pretty good. as for the exhaust you probably know more about putting putting different machines exhaust on a 200x. i roll with 400ex hubs and i hope soon to have some 400ex rims with either mudlites or flattrackers. not sure yet though.

that i cant tell ya. i dont have a 100% 200x. mine is a auto x. but ive herd that the xr200 carb and intake will go on. nobody ever gave me a year range.

Pretty sure all year xr200 carb setups will work, except for the rfvc models

I've got a 1990 XR200 here now and that carb looks nearly identical to the 200X carb. The bore of the carb may be bigger but it doesn't look it.

There has GOT to be a better carb swap out there for the 200X!!!!!

I don't think the 86 hubs swap with the 85. I believe they are off by one spline. I have em both so I will check.

Clutch is a piece of cake and a great time to clean the oil rotor and screen. BUT, you need the 4 prong clutch tool thats 30$ or make one from a 13/16 socket like I did.

well i know the hubs work i did it. Now ive heard the xr200r carb is bigger and is an upgrade and i dont know how to do jets very good. but im going to need to rejet this if i go with a bigger exhaust system (which im planning on doing)
how hard is that?

its not too bad. if i can do it believe me you can do it. what kind exhaust you going to run ?

Not sure prolly gonna make a 450r head pipe work and either an aftermarket 400ex muffler shortened. I bought a supertrapp for it but its to long/big. But it fits good up to my friends 86 200x with a 450r headpipe. I dont know yet.
If i have to.. a different headpipe and remove aitbox and boot and connect a K&N straight to the carba nd run outerwears. Then rejet with a bigger carb. New clutch and cable and 20 or 18 inch tires should make it fun right?

id run 20 inch tires. 18 inch tires are too small in my opinion.

Yep, the 86 hubs do fit the 85. 450R hubs fit too and have the same offset, you can find those brand new. I got mine for 40$ shipped. It must be either the 350X or the 250R 85/86 that the hubs are one spline off of and won't fit....

OK, it has been 2 years since I checked into using the XR parts on my 200x, I never did get the project finished so I can't tell from experience. But here is what I remember, don't take my word as law though, check into it more and hopefully others will post.

From what I understand the XR carb. is only 1mm bigger but makes a difference. The best intake would be the stock X intake ported to match the bigger carb. The XR intake works (I think the older xr200 is better then the xr200r) but you will have to make a new air box hose as the carb. will be at a little different angle.

I have also heard the XR cam is a good upgrade, you can find those cheap as well.

Are you planning on using a clamp on air filter? I would at least ditch the air box lid but it depends on where you ride.

Okay so i'm gonna need an Xr200 carb, intake. Actually i heard you can take off the stock intake and heat it up or boil it or sumthing and like shove a beer bottle thru it to make it bigger and let it dry lol. Sounds stupid but might work. lol
How hard are cams to switch out? Also i was hoping to sumhow ditch the whole airbox or maybe just the lid idk.

Rejetting isn't hard but you do need a fistful of jets and a lot of patience. You'll need to estimate an increase with all the mods you're doing, and then work your way up or down depending on plug chops...

id start out 3-5 sizes higher than stock. when i piped and put a bigger carb on my trike it took a 110 and stock is 100. that is a 4 size jump.

The early XR200 carbs are 30mm. The XR inlet manifold won't work. You can port the standard 200X manifold to match and the standard 200X filter boot will fit.

sorry hope im not jackin this thread, but im trying to do the same thing and i was wondering if i would be better off with a xr200 bottom end on my x. i have a few diffrent answers from people and im still confused. if the xr is a enduro wouldnt the gears be longer? im just trying to improve the top speed of my X without having a custom gear made.

Dirtcrasher

A custom gear? I can't imagine what that would cost... I thought people were using the 6 speed trannies and putting them in the X lower end. Do a search and find the guy who did it, I know at least a few guys have done the actual swap and not just thought about it or think they know how to do it.

FYI, a 1990 XR200 carb and intake bolt right onto a 200X and it is 2mm larger.
