works well with 2 people, one holding the pisting and one holding the ring to get it to compress....have your son help ya.

ring compressor is only like 6 bucks at a lawnmower shop or autozone

I agree Chris, have little Chris hold the piston and you can mostly compress each ring with your finger and then use a screwdriver to push it the rest of the way.

i alway get my little brother over here to help me. he is 11 and has rebuilt 2 older sled engines. he knows how to but the cylinders on without breaking rings. i have him hold the cylinder and push it down lightly as a squeeze the rings in with my fingers or a regular but small screw driver as Liquid-Darkness said.

make sure you remember those little grooves in the piston ring spaces where the ends of the rings go...

take your time and just give it a rest for a day then, nothing worse then not giving up and screwing somthing up.

$200 for my local guy to do it.... THAT I cannot afford at this time.

I tried pressing in on the side of the rings... but am starting to mess them up. (which is a bad thing)

Not sure what to do at this point. I just wannna ride!!!

if your messing the ring up get a new one, most times when ive done it if you get the part in where the ring is split you can push the rest in the your finger nail or a screw driver with a old rag over it....just use alot of motor oil

go get a ring compressor from a auto parts store (a smaller one)

One way I use when I have no help is -

Take the cylinder and flip it upside down, placed on a table. Leave one clip in the piston and pull out the pin and take it off the rod. Put the piston skirt side up into the cylinder and work the rings in with the fingers. Because the cylinder is flat on the bench, there is no flopping around or crooked BS. Just slip it in far enough to clear the rings and all you need is fingertips for that, I've never used a screwdriver in a hundred top ends. I usually insert the piston about 1/4" less than where the wristpin hole would be covered. Then I flip it over and slip it on then cases and slide in the wrist pin, pop in the clip and your done. Don't forget the base gasket and put a rag in the crank in case the clip goes flying....

Eh, the clips would be more trouble than the rings for chris. Chris just wait untill Josh or myself can come help you.

put the ring ends in the correct area where they fit around the pins in the ring grooves. DONT use a ring compressor or you'll end up breaking something.

Is there anywheres else to ride than the drag strip? I'm not sure my motor is quite ready for wide open drag racin.

Aslo,, where, when and what time? how much to get into the race (as a spectator?) what about the cost to camp?

Don't know if this will help but i always use a hose clamp to compress the rings and slide it down the piston with the bottom of the cylinder. When the rings are in the cylinder take the hose clamp off.

Sorry Bro.. but I ended up going to the penn state football game instead.

Can someone kinda point me in the right dirction to put those ends of the rings. I cannot find those pins you speak of.

HELP! lol

Anyone close that can shoot up and lend a hand? I'm off the rest of the week...

you need to look into the groves on the piston. There are tiny little pins in the groves at two points, they keep the rings from spinning around the piston. The ends of the rings line up with each of those pins. Don't try to force anything, it shouldn't take a lot of force to put the rings on and get the piston back in the cylinder. Don't get frustrated, just wait if you can't do it.
