I bought a new engine from a member on here named denn through ebay. I took off the head to make sure the camshaft, valves, and rocker arms were all good. Everything looked brand new. When I reinstalled the head and turned the engine with the kickstart the engine locked up. Took the head back off and the engine turned fine again. I unscrewed the valve adjusters all the way and put the head back on and the engine would turn over. I set the valve adjusters to the book .003 and went to turn the engine over and it was locked up again. What ever it is, is one the exhaust side, the intake side arm is loose and the exhaust side arm is tight. Anybody got any ideas. Thanks Joel

Did you have the cam timing set correctly? Maybe a valve touched the piston.

Might be something to do with the decompression lever / shaft or dowel pin...? Make sure all the decomp. components are ok... Something could have moved on you when you had the cover off.

Did you try to turn it over BEFORE you removed the valve cover?

One more thing...
I assume you only looked under the cover... you did not remove the cam or cam chain right?

maybe if not that.. try and see if the valve guide and or valve is bent...does the piston have any marks on it from contact..

I just got it.......... the cam chain sprocket was way off. When the flywheel was on T is was 9 or 10 teeth off and after looking at the pictures in my manual the sprocket was put in backwards. Thanks for all the help Joel
