I have a chance to get a 85 250R frame cheap with swingarm, axle, and most of the other parts minus the motor and wiring harness. What 4 stroke motor will fit in there? I love 2 strokes but not replacing pistons so I was thinking a motor swap. Any Ideas???

I'm not trying to be an ass, but how often do people really change pistons in their 2-strokes? It seems to me like people over exaggerate this a bit. I've only owned my tri z for a few months so I'm not sure how often it will need the piston replaced. But I’ve been riding snowmobiles for over 10 years and have only had to replace 1 set of pistons in my old 01 xc 700 due to the tank vent line being kinked thus causing a lean condition.

I agree. The un reliability of 2 strokes is blown way way out of porportion. People that change the piston or rings in a 2 stroke every week or two ought to learn how to jet and mix their gas. Most people that I hear complaining about it when I'm out riding are the ones revving it to 15000 rpms with their oil mixed 80 or 100:1 haha. With that said, if you want to put a four stroke motor in a 250r frame I still want to see someone use one of the new CRF450 motors. Of course cost is the prohibiting factor there lol.

Yup, my 87 R is just now getting its 1st over size piston. I've had it since November of 2001 and I've ran the total crap out of it too. Don't believe the 2 strokes have to be rebuilt every year crap. Like pumper said, People need to learn how to jet and mix their fuel/oil if their having that kind of problems.

A good rule to follow for ANYTHING, you take care of your stuff, it will take care of you.

I THINK BRIGGS & STRATTON 5 HORSE IS A GOOD IDEA ;) . AT LEAST THE PARTS ARE CHEAP! I WAS WONDERING MAINLY BECAUSE I HAVE NEVER OWNED A 2 STROKE AND IT SEEMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO ICE RACE 250R's LOOK TO FIND A 300EX or 400EX MOTOR. FORGIVE ME FOR MY ATTACK ON THE 2 STROKE
