Ive been searching the forum about the clutch upgrade for the R, and it looks like everyone who had it was pleased with it. Who has one on thiers now, and how well do you like it? Can you even tell a difference?
I also heard of someone putting a Magura Hydraulic Clutch kit from an 86 TRX250R. They said it fits and works pretty well. Has anyone else tried it, and if so, did it feel a lot better?
Heres the link for the hydraulic kit:

the clutch update is nice, as for the hydroclutch there nicer on a daily rider/trail rider than a racer in my op, if you race you kinda want to be abe to feal the clutch action and with the hydro you cant feal anything

I've got the Magura clutch and I like it. The feel was slightly different than the cable but I got used to it quickly. The pull isn't that much less than a well lubed cable but now I don't have to lube it anymore.

I have often wondered about these my self. Are they vehicle specific?

Supposedly they are vehicle specific, but I think the only thing that makes it that way is the cable mount at the end of the cable. If you could fab a different mount up Im sure you could make it fit easy.
I talked to a guy that had one of the hydraulic clutches, he said he loved it and it worked very well, but it wasnt worth coughing up 200$ for. I think Ill wait for one to pop up on ebay.

lonesome, i have talked to magura about this for the z. I conjured the idea up and decided to call tech line and ask about the yz 250 kit. Basically all we have to worry about is the length of the line from master to the actuator. But they sell a kit where you can make your own line. The diameter of the end of the actuator is 8mm for the yz hydraulic clutch. I believe it to be the same as the stock end of a z clutch cable. Then they offer spacers to get the throw right on the actuator to the clutch arm. I think it will work just fine.

Save 200 bucks and just pick up an MSR Pro Raptor easy pull clutch lever assembly. Easy pull and you can still "feel" the clutch in those situations where you need to.
As far as the '89 clutch upgrade itself, I have nothing to offer.
Just seems ridiculous to me to spend all that money for something you can get with stock parts and minor control upgrades.

Its really not ridiculous in the scheme of things, just as much as a pipe, or a carb, etc. If he wants it he wants it. Besides they are relatively maint. free once setup. By the time you get a new clutch cable and the msr lever and perch your half way there in price.....

What about buying everything except for the line itself? I am sure any hydraulic shop could make one to speck. You could even have one made from SS mesh.
I like the maintenance free part. I agree it is a lot of money when an EZ pull is so much cheaper. However, I have had one cable fail on me once. And once is all it took to convince me. Being stranded that far out puts things into perspective real quick.

You could do that lonesome i believe. It utilizes a 6mm banjo on the actuator end. I believe the other end just locks into the master cylinder. Im not sure on that end.
